I've been considering possible solution to our problems with outreach, so I would like to suggest a possible solution: Steam Greenlight. While it is unlikely the game will make it past the greenlight phase right now, it opens the game up to be discovered by a much larger audience and most of all, curators. The only reason I discovered thrive was because I searched for an article about games similar to Spore. While I know Thrive is trying to deviate from spore's cartoonish nature, we may have to pose as a more spore like game to gain attention (but not by changing mechanics). Why I mention this ties back in to getting the attention of steam curators. I believe we are the game they are looking for: store.steampowered.com/news/externalpost/rps/234577531159343838 Any Opinions?

I have to say, it's been awhile since I've played thrive, but after opening up the new update for the first time, I remembered how much I loved the music. To be honest it's probably my favorite game soundtrack (although HOI4 is a close second). I especially like the ambient main menu music.

After being gone for a long long time I've decided to return with an idea. Recently I've been taking drafting class and I heard about an engineering software known as CAD. Unfortunately I don't really know how it works since it isn't used until 2nd year drafting, but it seems promising enough to base the tech editor off of. The idea would be a slightly simplified version with an improved ui.

Seeing as this piece, the solo piano extract from the beginning of the Thrive Main Theme v9, got a good reception: I've created some sheet music for it in case anyone wants to have a go playing it: musescore.com/user/3274766/scores/2462331First off I would like to say I think you have done a great job with the theme thus far. The piano solo adds a nice touch. Personally I'd like to see a bit more of a orchestral approach. It doesn't seem like the piano fits with electronic-style music. If you maybe added some chello, bass, and/or any other long-toned stringed instruments, the piano might fit a little bit better. That statement might be a bit biased though, since I am a big fan of John Williams. Keep up the good work!

Mods, will threads like these be obsolete by the time the topic is necessary and we'll make new threads, or do we have to necro all these threads like the last forum because we didn't want to make more than one thread for the same topic? No way to tell but... considering the fact that the developers have a separate forum for just development, and that by the time the topic becomes relevant again we'll probably have new members who won't bother to look through old threads and will have many questions so they'll take it upon themselves to ask them. We're probably gonna get a lot of new topics asking the same things forever. I know this is a bit off topic, but is there anyway we could have all the essential basic threads (i.e. Don't EVER talk about underwater civs) permenantly posted in one easy-to-find area. If new-comers join the forums they know not to spam the same thread.

The current GUI is pretty terrible. I think we've established that. What we need to establish is what exactly is terrible about it and how to improve it. You can see our current GUI development here: forum.revolutionarygamesstudio.com/t/microbe-gui/111/37What are your biggest gripes with the current GUI? What suggestions do you have for improving it? We're not looking for massive ideas - those are generally pretty complete already - but small changes, like altering icons or button layouts. Maybe instead of trying to have a GUI that looks like a square or polygon it could be a bit more circular around the corners. The GUI itself should be a darker shade of blue or another color entirely so it doesn't blend in with the background.

I don't really want to bring too much politics into this forum but I can give you a few of my thoughts, being in the UK and just being old enough to vote. I personally voted in, although I was going back and forth for weeks and only made my mind up in the morning of the vote. Basically, the referendum was a disaster, and I'm not talking about the result. Logical, thoughtful arguments for both sides were swamped by insane scaremongering, which made a decision difficult to make for the average Briton. Some people hate each other because they voted the other way, and now we're going to have a new Prime Minister in October that most people won't have voted for. Only time will tell whether it was the right decision but at the moment there is uncertainty and an alarmingly large amount of anger that almost appears to have split Britain. I feel like that's gonna be the US on Election Day. You either view Trump as the scourge of God or you think he is God.

What do you mean by that? Well, there's a plan for an overall " Tech Editor" to be used to create anything from stone axes to capital starships if the player has the right parts, called Function Parts. Function Parts would be earned through the Research Tree. I was thinking your idea was for a modern version of it, kind of like if earlier tech levels had it be in a village center. Then yes, it is for modern tech

I'm guessing this is like a modern-style "form" of the Tech Editor? What do you mean by that?

I have created this thread to better define the military weapons and vehicles editor for Thrive. I encourage you to give additional ideas relating to the topic. Take note that the military editor should be accurate and HIGHLY customizable.
My ideas:
At the simplest level the camera should be a large priority. The player could be given the ability to resize the camera in order to edit fine details. Construction starts by placing a metal sheet in a hangar (think Kerbal Space program type hangar). You can resize and reshape the metal sheet with various tools. You can change to composition of the metal and how it is made. You can either weld or bolt various metal sheets together to form the outline of the vehicle. Weaponry should be mainly customized based on the time period. As time progresses, more effective weaponry can be used. The player would have the ability to edit the diameter of the barrel, magazine/belt size, caliber of bullet, bullet type (i.e. armor piercing), length of barrel, if the barrel is rifled, etc. Engines should be very customizable, like the weapons. It should be similar to a game called Automation. Computers should be based almost completely on technology level; however, you can customize the role and specifications of the computer. Aerodynamic physics should be similar to Simple Planes. Ballistics should be similar to War Thunder. Prefab parts, sub-assemblies, and extensive tutorials are a MUST.

2027, it'll come out right after Shrek 14, Ice Age 12, Half Life 3, and Terra Nova season 2. In all seriousness, as we're gathering Steam I honestly believe that the microbe stage is only three years from completion, and once it's done I think we can get all the way through society in the next three. edit: Nate Silver I'm not, so a six year time frame for that might be overly optimistic or pessimistic, so I'm not sure if it's realistic. My apologies if I end up being wrong. edit 2: And the programmers we have do really amazing work, so as I say this they'll probably obliterate my cautious timeline with their dedication (in a good way). Half life 3 confirmed? I just wonder how long it will take to get a decent foothold in the multicellular stage, given Thrive will probably have more public attention.
