As you may have seen here, I'm in the middle of creating a new version of the Thrive Main Theme. Don't get too excited - it might take a while to finish, given the rate I'm going. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should put in it?

Maybe a section with some kind of "drop"? If you know what I mean.

I think the current Thrive theme does this already, but the tune could "evolve" throughout the song? Maybe a section for each stage if it's the long version. Also, I really like this part (6:36 to 7:20) of the current theme! So, uh.. keep it. Unfortunately, I don't know much about music so I can't think of anything else to add.

Yeah, that part's definitely staying, although like everything else I'll be refining it.

I've been working quite a bit on the updated Main Theme recently:
A couple of things I know are already wrong:
- The dynamic processing is all over the place. At the moment it sounds fine in my DAW, but the exported file has clipping all over the place. Any attempt to fix it results in either a dull or distorted sound. I'll certainly have to fix this. - This is only around half of the finished piece. Several notable sections from previous versions are missing, and I'll get to adding those alongside ironing out everything already in place. - Strings. Gah, strings. No matter what I do to them, they always sound fake and plastic. It's a slight improvement from v8, which was itself a massive overhaul of v7, but God am I fed up with string micromanagement.

I have no knowledge in music whatsoever so I can't really be one to nitpick. So what I will say is that I really like that change of pace at 1:34 all the way through to the main part of the main theme. The drums are a nice touch there. It definitely is improving.
Question: what will this theme be used for?

Promotional material, the main menu, the opening cutscene and the credits probably.

Promotional material, the main menu, the opening cutscene and the credits probably. I can definitely imagine this version being used in the opening cutscene. All the activity and action in the music would fit well with a cutscene. Perhaps a "toned down" version for the main menu?

Seeing as this piece, the solo piano extract from the beginning of the Thrive Main Theme v9, got a good reception: I've created some sheet music for it in case anyone wants to have a go playing it: musescore.com/user/3274766/scores/2462331

The piano solo adds a nice touch. Personally I'd like to see a bit more of a orchestral approach. It doesn't seem like the piano fits with electronic-style music. If you maybe added some chello, bass, and/or any other long-toned stringed instruments, the piano might fit a little bit better. That statement might be a bit biased though, since I am a big fan of John Williams. Keep up the good work!
