So I think the player should be allowed to design their planet before starting the microbe stage.
In my planet editor there would be two sliders: one for planetary mass and one for star type. Mass determines the force of gravity, which would alter the thickness of the atomsphere and the size of creatures. For example a low-gravity world could produce very tall, slim creatures in contrast to short, muscular creatures on high-mass worlds.
Star type would simply determine your position in the star system. Of course your planet would have to exist within the Goldilocks Zone, but depending on the type of star you inhabit this could either be closer or farther away from the star. For example a habitable planet orbiting a red dwarf would have to be very close to orbit.

Yeah that documentary is cool and is basically what we want to do with Thrive. It's nice to hear some other people talking in the same way we do.
