IDEA #1 I rememver this old video of pre-release Spore. It's somewhere on Youtube; I'll try to find it if I can. It showcased a single function that I think could work extremely well for Thrive.
Basically, every time your Creature mated, you had two options:
A) Go into the Creature Creator and evolve your creature B) Protect your nest of eggs and ensure they survive.
I think it had a popup box giving you the choice, but I can't quite remember it.
I loved this idea, since you didn't ALWAYS want to make a new creature - plus, nothing at all tries to eat or threaten your nest in Spore at all, which is horridly unrealistic.
If your animal becomes a Pack Animal (ie, wolves, lions), your offspring could become part of your Pack and you could raise them to adulthood somehow OvO

Good idea! There should be a button you can press that freezes evolution, so if you're really enjoying the current environment and you don't want it to change it doesn't have to. But it would have to stop all evolution or everything around you would continue to evolve and would dominate you.
This does however raise a few questions: 1) Could species still go extinct in this mode? 2) Could you die of old age?
There are probably more that I haven't thought of yet.

Hmmm...
I think both questions (should be) a yes. Not sure what exactly would count as "old age," but I'm thinking a few hours, so you get time to play with your creature before he goes kaputz.

The problem is if you allow species to become extinct whilst evolution is frozen then you would end up with vacuums where no species exists. Thisi because the species goes extinct but no other species can evolve to take it's place.

hnnng, true.... Didn't think about that. (i have a habit of forgetting details like that, bear with me)
So then evolution should be frozen, but species can't go extinct. You can still kill 'em, but a new one would spawn elsewhere ovo

Well, the different species should be located anywhere in the planet depending on the biome , so if you kill a whole nest of one species in the frozen-evolution ,you wouldn't be able to extinct it since there should be a lot more of them in other biomes like the one that species lived at (unlike spore , where there was just one nest for every species in the creature stage) .

about extinction, you know how humans are said to be responsible for an already ridiculously big, but getting even bigger number of species' extinctions? well, once your creature gets to a stage where there is society (but closer to the industrial era), your technologies, like burning fuels and chemical producing can have effects on the environment that affect the ecosystem, and can lead to extinction of all the poor little alien bunnies, caused by byproducts dumped into the environment or trash, or burning chemicals like fossil fuels and polluting the sky. this would make this game very realistic.

I meant within the biome, to be honest. Like, let's say you kill something in the Forest Biome, another of the species would spawn in the Forest. That sorta thing. So until you start evolving again, it would be impossible to extinct them.
And I think the evolution should be frozen until you evolve again, and if you play a particular creature for over 2 hours then Evolution is frozen. OvO That way things still evolve, but at the same pace you do.
(anybody else think it would be awesome to have a "hard mode" where everything evolves even when you dont? just a thought)

but in this " hard mode", wouldn't the game end with you dying as a simple blob over and over while advanced killing machines continuously hunt you down?

I imagine a "Rapid Evolution Mode," where you need to evolve every chance you get? So you needed to eat up as many resources as possible before anyone else gets to them. I'm having a hard time explaining it. xD I know what I'm trying to say, I just can't put it into words. |D

A hard mode with faster NPC evolution (and a higher chance of natural disasters) is definitely planned. You'll need to think extra carefully about how to survive and evolve to keep up with other species.
Also, would this thread fit better in 'The Idea' section? I know it started off with a Spore reference but it appears you're discussing ideas more than anything right now. Nothing wrong with that, of course.

Yeah, move it... OvO This might be a mix of Game references and "original" ideas, so put it wherever that fits into? ouo
