Here's a big thing for this though; is it fun? Because all the biggest rts games do not have this in them and no one really complains, but if this is terribly unfun it could absolutely ruin this stage. At certain points realism has to take a back seat for entertainment value, not often mind you, but sometimes; this may be one of those times.

If so I would think tattoos would be the next step once the proper equipment (or the "well, it sorta works" equipment) is discovered/invented.

I like the idea; but I agree that it should be some sort of toggleable thing or a mod, rather than actually part of the main game. Because if this does go on to later stages (which would be cool) it would be like playing a completly completely different game. A potentially fun game about trying to either devour the galaxy or a near futile fight to save it, but a different game none the less.

Stability loss would only make sense of your race both a( cares and b( has done so before and hated it. If your a race that sees little value in life or cares only for victory (more brutal cultures or any like species) would have no problems with it. The only problem such could bring would be if it kills your own side. Would we be able to design the bio/chemical agents? And the structure and method of genocide should we chose to commit it? Don't forget morale! Particularly brutal weapons and tactics would likely cripple the target squads' morale more quickly than conventional ones. There might even be treaties to outlaw their use. Again, treaties only if you're social. That begs the question of how morale could work. Drone (ant) like species or extremely warlike and violent races or machines would be very difficult (if not immposible) to break.

I didn't see any threads regarding this particular subject; so I apologise if this has been/is being discussed elsewhere.
This thread is centered around rather less please aspects of life, war, and civilisation. Aspects like torture, genocide, and the use of chemical and biological weapons. Now, I do not mean to offend anyone and strongly suggest that if you can't handle or stomach talking about such subjects in an analytical way, you simply don't read this thread. All of these have been and continue to be used through history.
Torture is common throughout the world; either as a (ineffective) means of gathering information or for other (often disguised) reasons; such as sadism or extreme religious views.
We all know about genocide; it's mass murder. Often for racial, religious, or political reasons.
Biological or chemical weapons are exactly as they say on the tin. They are pretty much uncontrollable engineered agents realised used upon enemy forces. They usually cause mass casualties in both enemies, civilians of both sides, and friendlies. Sometimes they are simply poisoned weapons; like when soldiers used to store bullets in dead bodies so that even a grazing wound could cause lethal infection.
I created this thread because I haven't seen any discussion on how such things will be handled in game. This is a game with a heavy focus on realism and these are real things that really happen; not including them, in both sides of the equation (both as the aggressor and victim), would simply seem out of place.

it'll still take time to implement, which could've been spend on other things Adding gore of any kind will take time implement, which could've been spent on other things. I really don't understand the need for gore at all costs some of you have. Gore for gore's sake will do nothing for the game. But it isn't just "gore for gore's sake". "Gore" is what happens when something receives a wound of any size; things that are inside you fall out. If the wound is big enough, organs will follow the blood in its flow. That's how the real world works, and this is a game heavily focused on realism.

It took the dev team 6 years to build a functional microbe stage. Are you really here to necropost about damage models for plants? But yes, a scar texture would be pretty neat. It wasn't because of the plants, honestly I just threw that up because it was part of the summary I was making. Mostly I just find this subject interesting and think it would be all round entertaining and useful (eventually) to continue it. Besides, Necroposting is not actually against the rules. It's a discussion of things that won't matter for years, but at least it's interesting.

Sorry for the necroposting; but I don't think this discussion was ever finished.
From what I've gathered specific damage leading to specific wounds is a yes; in that certain types of damage to certain areas cause certain wounds (E.g. a swipe to the abdomen (or equvalint) leads to disembowlment which causes its own whole plethora of problems and a chop to the neck causes decapitation (if all the calculations say it should) while a stab causes a stab wound.) And these are effectively status effects (though some are pretty much instantly lethal) and if you survive them you'll gain a corresponding scar. But the problem was damage to plants and how to implement a censored version for those who don't want to deal with gore, and the difficulty maintaining realism in the optional censored mode.

What about non-censored versions? Censorship should be optional.

Personally I'm all for blood and guts. And on that note what of disembowelment? Would your organs fall out and cause huge damage/near certain death? If this game is going to be realistic their would need to be different wounds like burns and radiation, which are rather grisly and involve melting and agony. Realism and child friendly are mutually exclusive. We're going for realism so far, I don't see a point in changing that. If we must add a no gore mode to it these things would just be the equivalent of status effects; just really lethal ones. Of course I'm biased and misanthropic,so... yeah.
