It is a common (hopefully) known fact that humanity exists in a 0.73 on the known Kardashev Scale, at least for what we know. What Is the Kardashev scale? The Kardashev is a measure of energy that a species consumed in relation to a planetary body, with Type 1 Being that of a Planet, Thpe 2 Bein ghat of a star, and so on. I was speculating is that: How will/will the Kardashev scale be present in game or influence the game at all in a stage before space? Here's a few speculations for the game.
Kardashev Scale 0-1: Obviously in the beginning of the game, all species in, on, above, or somewhere else on your planet will be a type 0, 1, and anything in between. Now this in relation to your species and how it evolves will be determined by the dominant species and their level on the scale, if they're <0.5, they'll probably influence you slightly (if they're presumed to be a WW1 Era civilization), if they're 0.5> Then they'll be a much larger influence (considering Radiation, Energy extraction, and so on). Though of course this may all just happen once in your game because you'll evolve out of them, either because they died off or left the planet...
Type 1: Now let's get onto the more interesting speculation, Should this level be inaccessible to species that achieve sentience before yours or should it be allowed? If so then there's a lot more to consider. One thing to note is that will your species be exploited due to producing power in some way or another? Or will it be that you were a plant but suddenly the lights go out, why? The planet was encompassed in a Dyson sphere, being used as a massive power plant for solar, persumably. Life on the surface of this world would be either terrible or tranquil, assuming the morals of the species in control (if you evolved at this time).
Type 1-2: This one is a bit more of speculation considering what a 1.5 would even be or look like. Imagine being your species freshly evolved and looking towards the night sky, could you see massive space stations in orbit around the planet? How about seeing the Dyson Sphere/Ring maybe being build around the star? Maybe your species (if passive) has been turned into somewhat of a delicacy or pet? That last one relates to it in general but that's the thought... Finally, we consider a type 2.
Type 2: Perhaps the most terrifying of them all when considering your species starting out below another, a Type 2 Civ would have a massive Dyson sphere around the star that they own, either that or a huge ring system visible in even the daytime sky. Life on the surface of such a world would be interesting, especially considering if your species even starts on a planet now, what if they evolve on the Dyson ring? What would that be like? Would it be like the normal game but taking place on a ring only or would it be more ridulous considering the technology? This is all speculation but the thought of evolving and being on a huge ring world built millennia ago sounds quite enthralling.
Type 3+?: This is probably a scale that wouldent be adressed too much, but the idea of a species completely controlling a galaxy brings up a few ideas. How would they harness energy from the galaxy? Is the Galaxy's stars covered in Dyson spheres as the galactic civilization spreads? If your species evolved during this time would they see no sun or stars in the sky? What if your planet is cannibalized for resources for this massive star system object? The thoughts of these objects exist in game is one that inspires many thoughts considering the effects on both a sentient species and that on a evolving species that doesn't know left from right...
Conclusion: This may have been all mindless rambling and speculation but, if we are to consider the idea of one species (your species) having these massive structures in theory, then why would other species not have them? Though this is all pure speculation I think it's a good way to think of challenges and events that occur in game, especially events that involve destroying planets for resources... Though that's just a theory for now.
