Thrive should think of the diversity of planets that could be possibly found or colonized. Remember a certain guy named Sean said his game would have several planets? Yeah, that would've been fun to see. However, it could be fun based on planets based on LAWK and non-LAWK to develop good gameplay experience. Keep in mind, all planets could and should have a variety of biomes and the type of planet shouldn't consist of the same biome(just look at earth), but the type that the planet is would consist mostly of that particular biome and/or similar.
For habitable rocky planets, here's my list.
Desert planet: There could be many forms of deserts, such as a sandy desert like what's found in the dunes of Saudi Arabia. Mountainous deserts which would be a playground for geological formations and fossils. And scrubby deserts that could have huge forests, to a thick undergrowth of cacti. There could also be mountain biomes that would be home to several kinds of exotic looking fungi.
Snowballs: These planets are going through some cold times. Although a snowball planet doesn't need to be entirely covered in ice and snow, the very warmest parts would resemble mid Appalachia which would be found only on the equator. There could be a true snowball, with no observable life. There could be mountainous snowballs, which would be jagged Himalaya-style geology. There could also multitudes of forest and tundra biomes too. Life would be rare in most parts.
Island/water Planets: These planets will be either totally underwater or at least dotted with Island chains. The island planets will have little terrestrial life, unless colonized by you, but they'll have multitudes of aquatic organisms.
Swamp Planets: Swamp planets are the pretty diverse in life. There are many habitats that should be included here: Marl prairies, cypress swamp, bogs, deltas, brackish swamps, and rice paddies. Each swamp planet could have a notable exaggeration of any of these habitats mentioned.
Forest Planets: These planets must be the most diverse kind of planet in turn of possible biomes you can produce, such as massive tropical jungles, boreal forests, temperate forests, and can be mixed with just about any other type of planet as well.
Monocot Planets: These are planets almost entirely colonized by monocots. Grasses, palms, orchids, Lilies, Yuccas, and all types of other related species create huge habitats of these oddities. Huge fields of vibrant grasses, reeds, and cattails seem to go on for thousands of miles until you reach massive forests of bird's of paradise, bananas, bamboo, and royal palms with orchids and bromeliads dangling off it's trunk. These planets don't have many large bodies of water, and the few are filled with jungle vallisneria and Alligator flag
These are just a few planets I thought of. Is there any that you could think that would make thrive better?

Dead Planet: A planet that, while once housing life, has become inhabitable for reason or another. (probably filled with fossils/corpses of organisms and withered/rotted plants)

Well of course there's the infamous Rogue Planet, though life on that would probably be very VERY small and not noticable, very thermal life.
Another example could be Crystalline planets, basically in this idea, take a planet like Neptune, which is said to have Diamond Rain or Diamond Surface, and make that into a world, probably after a cataclysmic event knocked away the atmosphere, Imagine crystal-like mountains and liquid carbon lakes, and possibly even seas of carbon creatures.
Next there could probably be Gas Giants, well of course there could be, always room for some like that, They could either be Jupiterian (Very Stormy) or Saturnian (Very Smooth), And may have a chance to develop life forming molecules, but im not sure about life itself.
Finally to the list there are Ice Giants, planets like Uranus and Neptune, which would be huge worlds with friggid atmospheres and next to no chance to develop life, however they would be a massive storage place for water, and could probably have some orbiting moons that can have Ice-like worlds, with thermal working below the icy surface of these snowball moons.
There are tons of ideas just waiting to be known of : D

Floating Mountain Planets: Just like Pandora, these planets are entirely covered in massive floating mountains. Some planets have a ground surface, others don't. Watch your step! Of course this type of planet will be non-LAWK.

Seasonal Ice Planet: This planet has an elliptical orbit that sends it to the outer fringes of the habitable zone. Due to this, the planet's surface water routinely freezes over. This means no warm water ports during Strategy Mode, posing an unusual challenge for trade and expansion.

Mistaken Planet: A planet at that a distance, looks habitable and Earth-like, but once studied is found to be hotter than melting points of most materials making it a death trap.

Cave Planet: A planet with little to no life on the surface(maybe because of a bad atmosphere?).There are small and big holes everywhere on the planet which lead to a(or multiple)cave-system(s) inhabitated by nearly blind creatures and maybe funghi.

MACHINE PLANET A PLANET DOMINATED BY MACHINES How about a planet that IS a machine (So essentially a ball of metal so large that it can achieve orbit, oh and it would be dominated by a robocracy of course)

Day Planets: Planets that, due to certain conditions, are in a perpetual state of daytime. Organisms here have adapted to deal with scarce water, perpetual sunlight and high temperatures.
Night Planets: Planets that, due to certain conditions, are in a perpetual state of nighttime. Organisms here have adapted to deal with low to scarce water, perpetual darkness and low temperatures.
Toxic Planets: Planets with an atmosphere made up of 90% to 100% carbon dioxide, causing the air to be extremely toxic. The only organisms here would likely be microbial life, aquatic life and plants.
Freshwater Planets: Planets with anywhere from 50% to even 100% freshwater. Saltwater is uncommon and organisms of many types are numerous due to the bounty of freshwater.

Which are bassicly just the same day and night idea but on the same world?

Yeah, that would actually be pretty cool, one side of the planet organisms are adapted to eternal day and the other half eternal night.

Storm Planet: This planet is in the inner regions of the habitable zone. Ironically, due to the resulting higher temperatures and increased evaporation, this planet experiences more rain than more temperate planets. Conditions on this sort of planet could range anywhere between lush jungles to dark, barren marshes perpetually shadowed by storms. Due to the high risk of tropical cyclones, establing SCs may be difficult.

Humorous Planet: This planet, somehow or another, resembles a tech object from your or a nearby empire blown up to massive proportions, seemingly defying the laws of physics. Russel's teapot may be giant in some galaxies, making Mars the fifth planet from the sun. Probably an elder race playing an impractical joke.

Flesh Planet: the fleshy floor is really a colony of organisms (probably fungus) that have covered the planet's surface... (this one isnt really premade... there is just a chance an organism might evolve like dis...)
Slime Ball: same thing but different... (think Amoebic Oshun)
Biomes o' Plenty: plamet almost looks multicolor from space... its a legion of biomes... like 1000+
Underwater Planet: Subnautica
Nonderwater Planet: The moon from Subnautica
Lush moon: its a moon that has lyfe
Thats no Moon: Space Station
How did lyfe form here?!: planet with lyfe but no water... (possible easteregg?)
How Lyfe form?! 2.0: Gas giant with Lyfe
No Man's Lie: a planet where everthing looks the same...
Species: Same thing but its Primum Specium
CraftMine: a cube shaped planet
Growtopian...?: Hexagonal Planet
WTB IS DIS?!: a planet which shape is not round...
Head: SHOW ME WHAT UVE GOT!!

Ringworld: It's a ring and a world. Artificial. Discworld: This planet is flat. The up end points towards the sun. May or may not have a bottom side, be supported by ultramassive herbivores from that planet, or reference Terry Pratchett. City Planet: Like Coruscant and other homeworlds, this planet is one giant city. Post-Industrial. Hypercomputer: This appears to be a regular world but it's really a hypercomputer. Claiming this planet after revealing it's true nature will increase science points. Thick Atmosphere World: Like Venus, the atmosphere is too dense for habitation. Ice Shell World: Like Europa, this planet has an icy exterior and a water interior. Planetoids: Pluto is one of many. Crescent World: This special planetoid is rarely found as a satellite. Mega Space Station: What do you expect? Large enough to have a consistent population and economy.
