What if, for instance we meet a civilisation in the space age that is less technologically and culturally developed than us? Now recently I've been playing a lot of Stellaris, a game where you have 4 options if an event previously specified occurs. You can either, passively Star Trek style observe them. Abduct and test in aggressive observation. Enlighten them through interaction. Or infiltrating them like creepy space lizards and taking over their government. So I have many questions as tgrive goes through many pre space age stages. What's the general opinion on your people as a industrial or lower being infiltrated, observed or enlightened? How would these actions affect the moral of observers or those being observed? Would this at all even be possible?

Uplifting is probably going to be possible as its been mentioned a lot before, mainly around Underwater Civs (metalworking+ would only be available to an underwater civ if an alien race uplifted their technology)

I guess there'd be a menu where you look at their research tree and choose a tech you already have that one of theirs leads to to give to them? I like to imagine that uplifting applies to political bodies instead of the entire species, so the entire world's balance of power could be turned upside down just by giving some primitive tribe a few (relatively) advanced technologies. Then you just sit back and watch as the species's evolution is irreparably derailed.

I'd like to be able to give them any tech I want honestly. If they're figuring out boats, I'd like to introduce them to the steam engine to see if they can reverse engineer it or something. Though your idea is definitely easier and makes more sense. I like to imagine that uplifting applies to political bodies instead of the entire species, so the entire world's balance of power could be turned upside down just by giving some primitive tribe a few (relatively) advanced technologies. Then you just sit back and watch as the species's evolution is irreparably derailed. I agree with this

Well, originally the tech you give would belong only to the specific group you gave it to, but like most tech it would gradually spread out so that other groups then get hold of it.

One way of thinking about it is that "tech" is just memes which are kind of like viruses that live inside people's brains / thoughtspace. So contacting another race is kind of like allowing them to get infected with your ideas. If you have no contact they don't get infected at all, if you have a lot of contact they will get heavily infected.
Also the native memes may fight back / have an immune response and defences. You see this all the time in the world with backlash.

Maybe Aquatic Civilization could be done by something similar to bees. Humans made bees homes so they could farm their products, perhaps a more intellegent species could farm you and build your home, then they could go extinct. I got this idea from a webcomic: imgur.com/gallery/HaSBn

That's quite possible.

I already know what I'll do... I'll find a planet on the brink to industrial age... and then I'll arm the most primitive and backwater tribe with Laser-Machiene-Gun-Tanks, A-B-C Bombs and Planes and watch the "Civilized" Nations get steamroled (LITERALY!) by those crazy, primitive nomads with Lightsabres!
