Basically, a horizontal gene transfer allows an embryo to take traits from its parents as it develops. When it is born, it has traits that it inherited from its parents.
Why create this thread? Because the Xenomorph from the Alien films shows this trait when it develops inside a host.
When the Alien grows up, it takes on traits and abilities that its host has.
For example, if it impregnates a Predator, it grows up and gets extra mandibles, dreadlocks and is bigger and stronger than its Predator host.
I am just wondering that if the player creates a parasitic creature that's like the Xenomorph, would a horizontal gene transfer be possible to implement, with the player controlled creature choosing which traits to inherit, and NPCs of the same species getting random genetic traits?
As I have stated before in my previous threads, if the mods feel the need to close this thread then go right ahead and close it.

I don't think it's possible considering the fact that said parasite would need a way to read and understand and modify the genetic composition of both itself and the organism it's trying to steal from.

Yeah, I was just thinking outside the box there. If it's not in the final game, it would at least be an interesting fan made mod.

Parasitic genetic inheritance nothing, imagine being a "you are what you eat" super predator!
Kind of like the Gryphon in the original Tristar Godzilla script (started out as an alien blob that ate animals like bats and snakes to turn into a big mountain lion with bat wings and snakes for tongues).

I sincerely apologize for the super necropost, but a realization about this idea came to me.
I've only JUST realized that there are going to be two versions of the game: LAWK and non-LAWK.
Did a little bit of research and the parasitic genetic inheritance doesn't exist to such a degree on Earth, based on life as we know it.
So that means my idea would only work if it's, somehow, implemented in the non-LAWK version of the game.
From my understanding, LAWK mode is based entirely on Earth-like science and technology, whereas non-LAWK mode primarily focuses on works of science fiction, like cloaking devices, plasma based projectiles, cyborgs, etc.
But what do I know?

I love the Alien movies as well it would be kinda cool to do it for either a mod like you said or do it for non-lawk

As far as I remember, LAWK only applies to biological parts. You can have cloaking-devices or other science-fiction machines with LAWK on, because it will be barely impossible to enter the space stage with current technology
EDIT: LAWK wouldn't make sense with technology, as, for example, if we manage to get cyborg-implants (which we actually almost already have), the game would have to change to include those in LAWK mode too...

Ah, I see now. Thanks for informing me as to what LAWK and non-LAWK are really about.
