When I say this, if you were on a planet more or less the same as Earth (Or created it in the Ascension Stage), would it be possible to create a race with a similar evolutionary history like Hominids? E.G, from weird rat things to ape-ish creatures. Or would something like that not be able to be done? Or would it just be extremely hard to do?

wibdib Definitely! My guess is it would be a painstaking process, but I think that once Thrive's mechanics are in working order, the player will likely be able to reproduce any real-life species' success.

Ah okay, great! Because my plan was that when THRIVE came out, I was going to be that (boring) person who always chooses/creates humans.

I would never call that boring, in Spore almost every creature I've made has been a small, winged T. rex. No variation.

IMO it's one of the best ways of testing the games' systems, trying to make an earthlike planet. Because we know what life looks like on earth and so if you see a hominid walk you'll be able to tell very easily if it looks realistic and natural. If it's a 12 legged giant spider-wolf then how will you know if it's acting strangely?
In the vision thread we were trying to get the sky to look blue, if you were on a planet with earthlike gasses and used a human eye. We got nearly there.

Convergent evolution I suppose. What worked once will work again. It's why Gorgonopsid, Smilodon and Thylacosmilus all have saber teeth (to make prey bleed out), and Sauropods and giraffes have long necks (to reach tree branches).
