So how do you guys think hybrids could work? Say you wanted to be a plant/fungi hybrid. Would you begin as a fungus and and have to try and be assimilated by a host or would you begin as an animal and assimilate the fungus.

Sounds like it'd be a symbiosis.
If it was full assimilation, then I reckon the two organisms would pretty much become so genetically in-tune that they'd be one organism. So the effects of symbiosis remain, just the game would consider it one organism.
I have no idea what it'd look like, or how it'd work in the real world.
Then again, there IS that one photosynthesizing sea slug (Elysia chlorotica) that incorporates chloroplasts from the algae it eats into its own body. That what you're thinking? Kind of assimilating a new organelle on steroids, I'd assume.

Yeah I meant symbiosis I just meant do you think you'd have to play as an animal or fungi to do it. Or do you think it wouldn't matter?

Maybe just keep things simple and NOT include hybrids in thrive?
Just an idea, the game is already very ambitious as it is now.
