So I don't think it's something very important, but for environments that have sand/snow/dirt/mud etc. Could it be possible for animals to leave footprints when they move on such soils? It would add to the realism and it could be used for hunters to track potential preys. Also imagine you're wondering aimlessly in the desert or something, then suddenly you found the footprints of an unknown animal and that tickle your curiosity (that also depends on the size of the footprints and the hope that the animal is not hostile). So I'm aware that creatures will have various and unusual feet shapes and ways of moving, so what would it look like for crawling creatures for example?

That'd be difficult I think. In any other game (as far as I know), footprints would be handled by simply placing an image of a generic footprint on the ground where something is walking. If Thrive wants to simulate unique footprints for every organism, that could pose a bit more of a problem. I imagine the ground would have to shape around the organism's foot, which would require a lot more polygons to make up the ground, which would make the game ultimately slower.
Or I could be completely wrong... I'm not really sure. Was I even correct in mentioning polygons?

What is a polygon in this context? Is that the same thing as a poly?
I think that there definitely can be a way to make it known that another creature has passed by. Scent trails would be easier, and there is a plan for them to exist I believe. In terms of footprints, it might do for quite some time to use the generic human model, perhaps until technology caught up (although Moore's Law is starting to falter, we still get better machines every few months) to allow for generating unique footprint models. I really don't know what sort of processing requirements that would entail though...

Yeah I meant poly.

I don't see why they need generic human footprints. Just use the model of the organism and use the bottom part of it to make the prints.

/\ Yes. Just take a picture of the bottoms of creatures feet. Put those on the ground.
