Here we are everyone, the new round. Sorry about the longer than usual wait, some IRL things had to take priority.
Round 17
Kashar (
serialkiller🌴)
Vote: Tame horses (2)
Outcome: Once more, your handlers search out the herds of equines, and once more, they fail. Though this time, your blunder comes with knowledge that there are handlers from another group that are also trying to tame the equines. However, it seems that relations with these Augrela are better than their attitude towards your band, as your handlers are chased off yet again. Some sabers and some handlers receive some injuries, none are life-threatening. Grumbling over this venture starts to reach an all-time high amongst the band.
Vote: Leather hardening (2)
Outcome: Your crafters attempt to find a way to toughen cured leather, but all attempts end in failure as each time results in either no effect or the leather being ruined. Combined with a previous failure at a long-standing string of failures, many are now in an uproar, believing that their band has been cursed with bad luck by their elders’ refusal to leave well enough alone. Many now threaten to take action themselves if these issues with the elders aren’t dealt with.
Stability: -2
Power: 2
Extra: Your scouts report sightings of the Azba wielding a new form of weapon, one shaped from a curved piece of wood and string, called a bow. With such instability rampant amongst your band, your elders repress news of this new development to prevent further grumblings. In less troubling news, your scouts also report sighting the Thourians with a newly tamed livestock animal they call a Plowhorn, with thick fur that they use for clothing purposes. Though there are also troubling reports of Thourian scouts encountering burrowing monsters that had attacked them when they tried to migrate out of the home valley long ago. Your elders repress this information too, lest your people start to riot.
Yirha (
aviscerator)
Vote: Domesticate equines mk. III (with bait) (10)
Outcome: Your handlers attempt to use bait made up of food such as the tubers the Hunra enjoy as well as other plants and even grasses to tempt the equines with. However, they learn that these equines instead utilize long tongues to slurp a sweet fluid from bell-shaped flowers and scrape leaves off of tree branches. Using this knowledge, your handlers now know what to tempt the equine herds with in the future.
Vote: Create wooden shields (6)
Outcome: Your crafters attempt to create a form of defensive gear called a shield out of wood. While some prototypes have been created, none have proven able to have any form of structural integrity, no matter what is used to bind the pieces of wood together. While not an abject failure, there is still some grumbling at the waste of resources.
Stability: 1
Power: 2
Extra: Your scouts report sightings of the Bukar experimenting with a new weapon, though these prototypes seem to fail, snapping in some way or another when attempted to be drawn. Even the projectiles made for them seem to be lacking in structural integrity, shattering on impact with a target. Your scouts also report the Bukar attempting to smoke the meat they attain from the water, but this doesn’t seem to do anything more than give the meat a new flavor much like your own efforts did. While the former reports bring some amusement at the Bukar floundering about, the latter make your people wonder what these rays and fish might taste like if smoked and cooked.
Kathak (
blackink)
Vote: Create a mold for mud bricks (12)
Outcome: Your crafters, using their tools normally used for shaping stone, have managed to create some prototypes for a square-shaped mold that mud could be placed inside. However, the mold has a hard time staying together, and thus so do the bricks your crafters try to make. Your crafters believe that, with further experimentation, they may be able to make a successful mold for creation of mud bricks.
Vote: Reattempt rope making (7)
Outcome: Your crafters also try to once more create rope, and while your efforts aren’t as plagued by ineptitude as your first attempt, your crafters have discovered little other than that the Thurn reed stems seem to be a better replacement for rope reinforcement than the grasses you had tried before. However, your prototypes still remain too brittle to use for any practical purpose.
Stability: 3
Power: 2
Extra: Due to the prevalence of the history stones amongst your people, they start to worship the stories of their ancestors, holding them in great reverence as the stories of how the Augrela came to be. Many families now have personal history stones, each one depicting their family history, with the whole tribe etching their history as a group into the large history boulders in the center of camp. It has become a tradition for your tribe’s elders to recite one or more stories by the fire on the first day of the warm season, a day where many celebrate their history and identity as Kathak.
In other news, your traders report seeing the Sartar doing trade with the Thaku. While this causes some alarm, even more so when it is relayed that the Sartar were arguing with the Thaku, the news that these were only negotiations for a trade agreement that went wrong, and the Sartar basically demanding a ransom-like trade agreement, causes anger amongst your people, particularly those most affected by the fallout with the Sartar before.
Though in lighter news, your traders also report the Thaku have discovered a new substance called clay, and are currently experimenting with its uses. The Thaku have also managed to create cords for drying the Thurn reed seed pods on, though they take a while to prepare and are vulnerable to bird scavenging during this time. This makes your people curious as to what the Thaku might do with these new techniques.
In other, more mysterious news, when scouting the fringes of Sartar territory, your scouts report sighting totems used to mark locations along that route, such as places to stop to rest or locations near water sources.
Tuuk (
QuantumCrab of '18)
Vote: Smoke meat for storage (11)
Outcome: Much like the Yirha, your people manage to find a way to smoke meat, but the process seems hindered by how slow it is, leading to very little meat being smoked at a time, and the boost to your food stores being little. While this helps solve some food woes during the cold season, it isn’t enough to truly fuel a population boom as intended.
Vote: Develop digging/mining tool (8)
Outcome: Your crafters manage to begin shaping tools meant for digging in the soil, and while they’ve managed to create more efficient handheld stones for digging at the soil such as for tilling fields or digging up particularly rooted tubers, but a digging tool it is not. While your growers appreciate this boon to their ability to grow food, your crafters are similarly frustrated by their failure to produce a better tool for digging.
Stability: 3
Power: 2
Extra: Your scouts report sighting the Sartar using new forms of tools, namely chisels and hammers, to shape stones. They use these to create decorative totems (usually shaped into the image of a Ba’arb) that they use to mark their seasonal stomping grounds. Your scouts are mystified
by this usage of shaped stone, with some expressing an interest in mimicking these techniques.
Thaku (
oncpapa)
Vote: Search fields for clay (19)
Outcome: While the banks of the mountain lake may not have possessed deposits of clay, your irrigation channels and tilled fields seem to have been coincidentally placed over fairly shallow deposits of the substance. This plenty of clay has resulted in some immediate experimentation, with most results not holding their shape, but there is still a lot of it in the ground and your people manage to retain most of what they find by periodically soaking the clay in water or storing them by the irrigation channels. This success has greatly mollified the grumbling caused by previous failures.
Vote: Make cords for drying seed pods (14)
Outcome: Your crafters manage to rig up cords that can be wrapped around the seed pods to dry them in the open air. However, due to the location of this process, it is somewhat lengthy and vulnerable to plucky birds that plunder some of the crop. Your crafters suspect this process could be eased by creating a special room or structure for the purpose of drying the seed pods.
Stability: 2
Power: 2
Extra: Your elders attempt to seal the trade deal, but they cannot do so before the Sartar sight a Kathak trade group heading into the village. This greatly angers the Sartari emissaries, who can barely be mollified in time to prevent a brawl from breaking out. However, now the Sartar demand a trade deal where your tribe would be giving them far more for their products than your traders feel they are worth. This angers your traders as well as those growers and fishermen that produce these resources, who desire a fairer deal, while the Sartar leave angry, desiring this ransom while threatening your tribe with no trade at all if they don’t get it.
In other news, your traders report seeing the Kathak celebrating around their history stones, with some growing envious of the veneration of history that the Kathak are engaging in. they also report the Kathak experimenting with some kind of mold in a square or rectangular shape, though for what, they don’t know. They also report the Kathak have been experimenting with using Thurn reed stems to strengthen their strings, though not with much success.
Yslach (
lordclassyus)
Vote: Try to find clay for pottery (15)
Outcome: By digging closer to the surface of the mountain, your people manage to find deposits of clay, particularly around mountain springs. While the process to procure this clay is risky due to the possibility of bird attacks, your people are fascinated by this new material and attempt to shape it. Initial attempts, however, cannot retain their shape, though with a little bit of ash from their fires, your people manage to create small, decorative bowls and images to place in their cave. Some even create bowls with the inside decorated with ashes to represent the deep abyss.
Stability: 3
Power: 1
Extra: Your scouts report that the Oshala seem to be experimenting with their strange mud mounds full of wood again. However, things seem to have taken a step backward as the mud mounds fall apart again, resulting in the loss of whatever contents are inside.
Bukar (
Aquos)
Vote: Bows (3)
Outcome: Your crafters attempt to create bows, but most prototypes they create are unable to retain their shape, or simply snap when they attempt to use them. This results in some minor injuries to hands and arms, but ultimately isn’t much of a loss due to having few prototypes made. It does cause some grumbling amongst your crafters though.
Vote: Food preservation (9)
Outcome: Your cooks attempt to hang meat over your fires, so that they might cure it and thus preserve it for long periods of time. However, the meat of the Behrok and Etilior doesn’t seem to respond to this method too well. The smoke lends the meat a new and exciting flavor, but doesn’t lend it any properties that would allow it to be stored for a long time.
Stability: 2
Power: 2
Extra: Your scouts once more report the Yirha attempting to tame the mysterious equines using food bait, though this bait doesn’t seem to have worked. They also report the Yirha attempting to create a form of protection strapped to the arm, however, they don’t seem able to either properly shape the wood they are using, nor properly bind it to prevent it from falling apart. This arouses some curiosity in your people as to what the Yirha are doing.
Thourian (
soundwave)
Vote: Tame some Plowhorns (14)
Outcome: Your handlers have finally managed to tame some Plowhorns. While not as good at being pack animals as the Thourshian Cloverns, and not at all different from their wild counterparts, the Plowhorns’ thick wooly coats provide great insulation as clothing, and their meat is yet another source of food for your band.
Vote: Send scouts north (2)
Outcome: You attempt to send a scouting group north, instead, they quickly return, with stories of the same mole-cat monsters that had terrorized your band into returning to the home valley a long time ago. They attacked your scouts before they could get very far, killing some and severely injuring others. This causes great shockwaves of fear throughout your band of this old menace returning to haunt them once more.
Stability: 1
Power: 2
Extra: Your scouts bring worrying reports of the Kashar band, of a great uproar caused by a failure to tame the equines they have been attempting to work with, as well as a seemingly connected failure to harden leather. Your people worry about the possibility of this wrath spilling over into interactions between the three groups in the home valley. Also causing some concern is the sighting of the Azba wielding a weapon made out of a curved piece of wood and string called a bow. With these, they launch arrows at their prey, and your people are nervous about the Azba wielding such a powerful weapon with such instability amongst one of the largest groups in the home valley.
Doggax (
GabrielGG)
Vote: String-making (16)
Outcome: Your crafters have managed to create string, primarily through the usage of Astani tendons. With them, your tribe manage to create more complex clothing, as well as simple netting for carrying resources such as hunters’ catches and growers’ harvests. This eases your haulers’ duties greatly compared to before, and the thicker clothing provides better protection from the cold, leading to a minor population boom.
