Hi, I've been reading through the forums for a bit and found a post about linguistics since I wanted to know if Thrive was going to be the same as Spore in this regard with having to hear the same gibberish over and over again. I found out that it is planned to have a seemingly more complex form of gibberish, however, I could not find anything about the actual logical voices certain species would have. The point I am going to make with this post is that I am hoping that even if we will hear the same gibberish, the way the gibberish is pronounced could be different.
So let's start of with creature stage: There will obviously be no real language (gibberish), but will the voice of the creature be fitting to the size of its body, vocal cords and mouth? It would also be cool if it wouldn't be just a set voice but that you would be able to do something with some sort of sliders to kinda pick how the voice will sound, but that it will have limits to the creature itself.
For the later stages where a sort of language will be established, the voices probably will become different like in spore, but of course also like in real life: the shape of our vocal cords and mouth changed so we could talk to each other.
And for the ascended stage (or maybe earlier in space): It would be very interesting to see a possibility for some sort of telepathic way of talking for beings that have evolved to no longer need mouths or something in that sense. An example: the Protoss from the Starcraft games. They have no mouths, yet are able to talk in a deep voice with a mysterious echo.
Sorry if this post was unclear, I didn't really know how to phrase it better. Let me know if I need to explain something more specifically.

My best guess is that we will have dynamic/adjustable voices for the creatures. As for languages, we could have someone talk sophisticated gibberish into a microphone for a couple of hours, and let that be adjustable. Or maybe a couple of people. Either way, we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

...So we just get someone to read out Atrox's Discord posts? In all seriousness, obviously we are still a ways offf from including anything like this but I suspect there will be adjustable sliders to change things like the pitch, within a certain range made avail ale by your species' physiology. There will also be different mechanisms for generating different types of noise; think, elephant trumps for trumpeting, or frog throats for ribbiting, or even legs to rub together to make a cricket-like sound.

Maybe it will be like in Dragon Age: Inquisition, where there is like 3-4 different voices for each race but instead of having races like elves and dwarves, the voices would probably depend on size. That would be awesome !

One thing I noticed with spore is that if a creature was really large, it sometimes sounded really high pitched with a girly voice. Not fitting.
Also when communicating with other alien races, it would make sense that it would be extremely formal, as to not accidentally insult them. Whereas in Spore, they would always communicate like they were a couple of mates sharing a beer.

Speaking of voices, what about vocalizations? Some species (mainly birds) are able to make different kinds of sounds to communicate.

Actually, it could also be a feature, maybe a creature can imitate the sounds another creature makes so as to attract prey

With all things, I think we should go procedural in voice creation. Language would be based upon sound frequency, sentence length, and word length. Over time, languages could evolve and trade characteristics. Animal language would obviously be less complex, using only one sound per word.
Voice synthesis technology is improving, and by the time Aware stage is considered, it will be enough to make random alien gibberish.
