I had to think for a moment when titling this because there's already a thread called "Music Suggestions." This thread is for, of course, suggesting themes that our composers could create and eventually put into the game. (I mainly created this thread because I wanted to get back into making music and needed inspiration, but the others could use the posts here as inspiration as well, if they want.) Before suggesting, please skim this playlist to make sure that what you're suggesting hasn't already been made. (Ctrl+F helps) When you are suggesting a theme, please state in which situations it would play, and in which stage(s) of the game. Include a basic description of the track, with at least the overall feel and tone described. Feel free to also include the instruments, structure, etc. if you can think of those things. Also, the game's themes evolve across stages, generally following these guidelines: * In the Microbe stage, themes are typically pretty slow and use synths ( Example) The editor tracks are an exception, as they are a bit more upbeat and advanced. * The Multicellular themes use similar synths, however they have a bit more structure than the microbe themes. * The themes of the Aware stage now have proper structure, but for the most part avoid man-made instruments and percussion. * The Awakening Stage sees the formation of tribes, and thus more man-made instruments are used. ( Oliver's Awakening theme uses synths, but light amounts of human instruments (soft percussion and flutes) show that this theme would likely play during the transition between Aware and Awakening. * The themes of the Society stage add more advanced instruments, like violins and pianos and stuff. * Industrial's themes seem to become more... organized(?) later on. As technology becomes more advanced, synthesized instruments are reintroduced, although they're less ambient and more of an actual instrument. * The Space Stage sees almost all instruments replaced with synthesized ones. * And finally, Ascension is... I dunno, there aren't any themes composed for it, but it's probably something along the lines of this. Please don't suggest themes if they are jokes that you know won't be considered. Please use common sense, I'd rather not see this spammed with unviable joke-posts.

In pre-society stages the theme could vary according to the biome, in order to increase inmersion. For example the volcanic vent could use a more "chaotic" and (relatively) fast paced theme, since there are a lot of things going on and heat everywhere and stuff, while the shallow biome could use a more calm theme, and the dephts could use an slower theme to signify the overall lack of life in there, and its depht.

Industrial Slums Situation: Plays during the early Industrial Stage, if the player zooms in on a settlement that has become crowded due to increased urbanization, with low living standards and heavy air pollution. Description: A simpler, more mournful version of the usual theme music for the Industrial Stage, with the tune being replaced by plucking strings. A droning background synth would loom like a cloud of smog.

I would have thought an overcrowded slum would have had more lively music, given that it's so busy, but that's obviously just my personal opinion.

Stage: Awakening
Theme Name: War's Beginnings
Plays When: In a battle with a tribe you are currently at war/low disposition with
What It Sounds Like: I imagine an Awakening battle theme would probably contain loud drum beats and low-pitched horns (I.E the type of sound you'd hear out of a War Horn rather than a Trumpet), maybe with some didgeridoo to add some character whilst still maintaining that tribal feel?

I don't know if this is already planned but when Disco Mode is activated will disco music play in the background because if not then that should be included just to make it funnier.

I forgot about that theme. Still as ridiculous to imagine in a nature documentary as I remember.

Ascension music you say?
I think something structurally akin to vaporwave (don't kill me yet) would work pretty well. I'm talking about the slowed down and surreal parts of it, and not the "just slowing down 80s music sense". Floral Shoppe is an obvious example of this. The slow sounding and incoherent instrumental bits sound fitting to me. (I'm sure everyone has heard at least a bit of Floral Shoppe since it was a meem a while ago but give it a listen to get the idea)
Other opinions?

So, almost making a full circle back to the aesthetics of the Microbe Stage, except not really?

So, almost making a full circle back to the aesthetics of the Microbe Stage, except not really? I'd say that's a good description, like the microbe stage but more complex and distorted (slightly less ambient) Also, vaporwave sounds kinda like you're high so that's one of the reasons I may be citing it. Fits the tone of being "ascended"

For the cell stage, well if you don´t know there is a game called Osmos with a very similar theme, i think their choice of music was really good, maybe you could get some ideas from that.

giant leaps:plays when you get the acheivements for getting to the next stage getting more complex for each acheivement
more to come

(then i can take over this thread like i did with achievements thread) Please don't, unless you're gonna be suggesting stuff that's reasonable.

I was thinking something like this could make for a great Multicellular Gameplay or Editor theme.

Dying Breath Situation: Plays during the Space Stage, when the player enters System View of a lone white dwarf. Description: Soft, methodical piano solo composed of “clusters” of notes, with the last one coming a few seconds after the others. Calm, rather than sad, even in more intense parts.
Sarcophagus Situation: Plays during the Space Stage, when the player enters System View of a black hole. Description: A wavering, tense synth-string tune plays over a deep, reverbating “hum.” Occasionally goes silent, replaced by an echoing “brushing/sweeping” sound.
