To what extent will LAWK cover? Will it be scientifically-possible forms of life that just don't appear on earth? Or will it include other things that are a little more handwave-y like breathing fire?

Or will it include other things that are a little more handwave-y like breathing fire? If I'm correct, it has to be scientifically accurate to even be in the game. LAWK only affects "scientifically-possible forms of life that just don't appear on earth", as you said it.

I think LAWK will include some sci-fi handwaves such as: Organic Wheels Thermosynthesis (Heat->Sugar) Floating Mountains (Aesthetic) Oddly-shaped Planets Fire Breath

Isn't thermosynthesis possible? Just like fire breath (not exactly, but more something along the lines of spewing methane and igniting it with some kind of chemical reaction? (There was this thread about it somewhere)) and organic wheels (They're just pretty unlikely, but theoretically scientifically possible?) I've always thought LAWK only covered things that just didn't happen on earth, but are still possible....

We don't know what's outside Earth, so we'll just stuff them under LAWK. I remember someone important saying there would also be a bit looser engine rules, like on an organic balloon being a bit easier to execute as non-LAWK.

Didn't somebody here found out that thermosynthesis was actually used before photosynthesis in some cells ?

That was me! But it's only a theory

Do you mean theory scientifically or colloquially?

Imo LAWK should be configurable, so if you want you can only enable Thermoplasts, or go all the way and have fire-breathing organisms with organic wheels (and with Thermoplasts disabled too if you want)

Will LAWK also enable hypothetical biochemistry? This is far more complex than organic wheels and breathing fire, but having silicon based lifeforms would be a great addition. Some animals on earth already use silicon for their cell walls so it doesn't seem too off the bounds. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypothetical_types_of_biochemistry#/media/File:Diatom2.jpg(Of course this is one of the most common alien biology tropes ever so i'm sure it was brought up at least a million times now but whatever)

I don't think so, it seems a bit too complicated and hard to implement. Since the game takes a semi-scientific stance, even outside of LAWK, and since we have no way of knowing how a silicon based lifeform would function, we couldn't implement an accurate silicon life system.
Not that modders couldn't, though.
