Hello, here is a link to our 1st release candidate for version 0.3.3. For those of you who don't know, we use these release candidates to find bugs in "beta" versions of the game before we post an official one to the reddit and the website. Some of the new features are: - Health and reproduction systems
- Random microbe generation
- Random species names
There are a bunch of other changes, but they are done mostly on the backend and aren't that visible. The gui isn't in the release candidate, but will hopefully be in the official version. When posting a bug please include the following helpful information: Description: Description of the bug with all the accompanying error information from the console (e.g. game screen becomes black and unresponsive; the music is still playing and I can see the GUI.) Replication: How to replicate the bug (e.g. enter the editor from the main menu, then add a vacuole, and exit to the cell stage) Additional Info: Screenshots are helpful. Press PrtSc and then upload the image from the bin folder (titled screenshot.png) to Imgur and post the link here. We also like screenshots of the console window, since it prints important information about what caused the crash.

The game's intro seemed to go by way too fast. The rest of the game played normally until it tried to show the player's microbe, then it crashed. I'm running Linux though so that may be why

Yay, new update! Description: It keeps crashing (not responding) replication: I didn't try with other "setups", but my microbe was the default microbe, but with 2 mitochondria on the lower-sides and 2 cytoplasm on random locations. The game goes on as normal (a bit laggy, that's all), but when it tries to split the "starting mitochondria" (the one all microbes start with) (I think that's what happens, it's always as big as possible), it stops responding. (I've tried it from both the tutorial and by immediately going to the editor) (Also, I think the random mutations should be refined a bit more. I've seen some weird cells by now.) EDIT:the setup doesn't matter. I've tested it with different setups, but although the other mitochondria do split, the starting one crashes the game.

- Why is there an active cilia button in the editor? There are no cilia in the game yet unless you've sneakily added them, in which case they're not loading when clicked. - The intro video goes stupidly fast and doesn't sync with the intro music. - My cell seems to be travelling much faster than it used to, to the point where items in the environment can't load before I arrive at them. It might be the same for NPC cells, I'm not sure. - Clicking the editor button in the tutorial crashed the game, but didn't when I tried reproducing it. It happened after I entered the editor from the main menu, finished to enter the environment, then returned to the main menu and clicked new game again. - A couple of GUI glitches and oddities (hitbox for the main menu editor button, for instance), largely irrelevant since the new GUI will replace them. - Same as in the last few versions, music and sound effects keep playing for a few seconds after entering a new scene. The intro music even played in its entirety after I entered the game from the main menu. - The membrane is tighter than before, which means the oscillations distort it more and make it look boxy. Plus the flagella end up hovering unconnected to the membrane as it wobbles.
Other than that, great work!

The game's intro seemed to go by way too fast. The rest of the game played normally until it tried to show the player's microbe, then it crashed. I'm running Linux though so that may be why You need at least ffmpeg 3.2 for the video to play correctly. (Not my fault, blame ffmpeg devs deprecating things way too fast) I also got a crash, when testing on a virtual machine, when a cell tried to render, so that's probably caused by it needing some advanced shaders to render that. I already posted this on slack, but here's a release for linux compiled by me: boostslair.com/files/thrive/Thrive-0.3.3.rc1.7z

Thank you so much! Alright, possible bugs and/or things that I thought might need tweaking: The intro movie's audio continues playing when it's skipped. The 'Options' button doesn't work, though I assume that's just because the feature is incomplete. The second tutorial box is off-center. Link
The tutorial should also describe the reproduction process. The Undo button in the editor is not functional - you have to undo using Ctrl+Z, which doesn't seem to work half of the time. The Redo button, however, works. The text in the help box is all squished together in the middle. LinkChloroplasts have bright neon coloring. LinkLoading a saved game plays the reproduction sound, the damage and death sound a few times, and causes the microbe ambiance to repeat. (Though I'm pretty sure this has always been an issue)

Also, this is not as much a bug as it's an "annoyance", way too many microbes have toxin vacuoles now, even though they don't even have flagella, or mitochondria...

What is the process for making fatty acids? I think the reproduction system in it's entirety should be added to the tutorial and the help tab (and that it should show how much it costs to duplicate an organelle, by hovering over it. (oliveriver?))

I have a problem with the default screen resolution : It is almost imposible playing the game like this. Also, the game crashed after exiting the editor in the tutorial:

LongisquamaHere's something to try. Open ogre.cfg in the bin folder, and next to 'Video Mode' change the resolution to the resolution of your screen.

It chrashed a few times quite randomly (just playing and being in the editor) but I absolutely love the way organelles grow and then divide. Really beautiful.

Apparently, that's an issue with the library we use for video playing. Updating to the newest version seems to fix the issue. Omicron, not sure if this was the bug you were seeing but forgot to add a recursive step to my organelle splitting algorithm, so if an on organelle was covered on all sides, it could replicate. Thankfully crodnu found the bug and fixed it. Someone was working on cilia on another branch, so they edited the layout files. I've deleted in for now, but we'll have a new GUI, so that doesn't matter. Oliveriver, how fast exactly is it traveling? I've made it slightly faster, but it shouldn't be whooshing through your screen. An issue might be that you have a really large monitor, so the things in the corner don't spawn fast enough. Unfortunately, this is an issue with our current spawn system—we can't make the radius larger because that would slow the game down significantly. It's definitely one of the topmost priorities for the next release (which will mostly be engine improvements and refactoring trying to up the framerate). tl;dr not sure if what you're seeing is a bug or just a design flaw, we can fix it if it's the first, not so much if its the second. Clicking the new editor microbe button from the main menu is not currently supported. It's supposed to act in a completely different way, but seems like each time someone tried working on that, they gave up or left. Good idea. Remind me to revise the last textbox when we get the new GUI. The process is the same as for amino acids: some amount of ammonia plus some glucose. All organelles currently take 1 amino acids and 2 glucose to reproduce (might be the other way around). That might be an issue with the way I compiled everything (though likely something wrong with ogre reading your display incorrectly). Try playing it in window mode or change the resolution as oliveriver mentioned. Not much we can do now, but for the next release candidate we will hopefully fix and use the old system we used for compiling the game.

Maybe I just wasn't paying attention during the tutorial but I couldn't figure out how to reproduce. (Also, it crashed after about 45 minutes)
Also for some reason everytime time I took damage the organelles shrank until they were barely visible, they eventually returned to their normal size though.

It's hard to tell why exactly your game crashed without any error messages, so I can't really help you on that front. As for the organelles, they become smaller and don't work as well as you get damaged; likewise, they get bigger and split as you convert ammonia and glucose into amino acids. To reproduce, you basically need to have a really large quantity of ammonia and some glucose. Eventually, all of your organelles will split in half and you'll be able to enter the editor.

Great work, I can't wait to see the new GU, but I found a few bugs. My cell never made any amino acids, all of the cell membranes were mostly transparent, and my cell's nucleus was white.
