I was thinking a bit before that I dont really have many games that offer that whole "God game/Thrive"-esque feeling, So I was wondering if anyone had any other games to share that feel/seem like thrive would! (Besides the obvious Spore of course)
I can recommend a game for the whole "Space empire colonization" part, its called Aurora 4x, basically dwarf fortress in space (Albeit a LOT more complex seeming), if anyone liked dwarf fortress or anyone likes complex games, then it may be for you.
Suggest away!

Kerbal Space Program. It's gotten a lot more expensive since I got it, but check out youtube videos, and their subreddit.

Ksp is very fun and fulfill that creative itch. I don't have a lot that are like apore, but here are a few that are sandboxy and very creative.
Minecraft: if you've never played it's super fun, has great community, mid's and you can engineer code and computers within it.
Space engineers. You can build massive ships from scratch.
Ftl- linear space game.

After a bit of thinking I guess the game(s) that really hit that thrive idea are that of SimEarth (as suggested by Grodog), KSP for early space stage and the sort. And if I am to add a bit then I can suggest Stellaris, bassicly massive grand strategy game in space that highlights the idea of controlling an empire and taking the galaxy, sure there's no Ascension gates though there is some other "gates" later in the game. Also the idea of playing as a fungus that takes over the galaxy through "friendship" is amazing.
(10 day old post, not sure if necropost)

Species would be a good Ascension thingy... Maybe some of the Spore demos and prototypes as well.

Cellular/Multicellular (evolution sim, worm-squids in a petri-dish) • Darwin Pond (Windows) (free) • Genepool (iOS) (probably free) Civilization • Civilization (series, latest is Windows, macOS) Not a god game, but a good game (classic).
Civilization (sort-of Space, Tribal, and God) • Populous: The Beginning (Windows) Non-traditional RTS by Bullfrog (Theme Hospital, Theme Park, Dungeon Keeper) with spell-casting shaman leaders, fighting between ‘tribes’. Houses made with local trees breed braves, and training huts train warriors, priests, firewarriors, and spies, with complex interactions between each type. Takes place on planets/moons in a solar system (pseudo-spherical maps!), approaching the sun as you progress. Really great details, including funny & satisfying unit animation, planets getting hotter as you approach the sun, and creepy ambience in the later levels. Unique visuals and memorable soundtrack. Be advised: larger levels can take a while, depending on your strategy.Landscape god tools (guidance through hazards) • From Dust (Windows) Strategy game, with a god mode final level, but wonderful time sink playing with things like the simulated erosion. Great game that leaves you wanting more. Unfortunately, it's made by Ubisoft (takes a few weeks and signing your soul away to install).Space god tools • Universe Sandbox (series, Windows) Version 2 is remade with a better engine (performance & graphics) and great, complimentary VR support. Premade sandboxes include a detailed solar system, galaxy collision.
I'll also second Species and Minecraft.
