Hello thrive community! I am new, as you would expect. This is my first thread.
Anyway, I have and idea for adapting to climate change and stuff while dealing with timespan. The more complex you evolve in each mutation, the more time you spend in the world.
For example if you add denser fur to your rabbit so it can survive an ice age, it wouldnt take alot of time since it isnt alot of a difference. However, adding fur then adding horns and improving muscle, vision, etc. would take much more time evolution-wise, possibly passing the ice age and even entering a global warming event, making the fur useless or even harmful.
I dunno if this idea is good but it can spice up some challenge.

I personally agree with what you said here, but the only issue with that is we have a limited amount of MP to work with. So you can spend a lot of MP on one feature (making your fur thicker), or a little MP in multiple areas, resulting in minor changes to those areas. I think it'd balance out the amount of time that passes, so the same amount of time would always pass.
I do like the idea though. It keeps players on their toes, and reminds them that evolution isn't fast paced, so you shouldn't try to rush through the game.

As i said i am new and I am a former spore player so I have no idea how the MP system will be balanced.
Anyway Im happy its a good idea afterall.

Atrox The availbility of mutation (mating) in spore was pretty... annoying of some sort. It made it so that you can adapt whenever you want which eased it too much. Its good to point out that mutation needs to be executed carefully and wisely while also being conservative. Then again spore had also another missing factor, climate, which hopefully Thrive will contain. Roadkill out :3

Yeah it's actually a big problem we don't really know how to solve.
Imagine the aware stage is 100 million years long and you go to the editor 100 times during it (which is quite a lot of times to edit your creature during one stage). This means there is 1 million years between edits and, as you say, the climate can change enormously in that time.
Options include having a climate which changes much slower than it really would.

Perhaps there could be a system where we have two types of reproduction.
The first type is the typical type imagined, you make an organism, raise it to adulthood, meet a nice guy/gal, settle down, and enter the organism editor.
The second type is where you get a limited number of mutation points that you can only use to enhance existing features (like fur density, desiccation prevention, etc.) and instead of jumping ahead a million years, it jumps ahead, say a hundred.
The chosen reproduction type could be an option whenever you reproduce.

Well if ice ages happen once every 20,000 years then you're going to need to be doing the little jumps a lot of times, like 10's of thousands, over the course of the stage. Which is probably too much
