How far along would you say the microbial stage is in developement, y'know so we could get an idea of how much is left to do. (Sorry if this has been asked before or is answered somewhere)

Well, Thrive 0.3.2 is nearly done, and the Microbe stage complete will be 1.0.0, so I'd say just under half way. But take heart in the fact that we hope development will speed up the further along we go as it attracts more developers, so it shouldn't take as long as it has to ge this far. However, with the nature of the team developing it, we have no idea what will happen so it's difficult to say how long it will take.

Is that going to be an "official" release to be broadcasted for a larger group of people(say steam?), or will you guys wait until the first couple of updates in the next stage?

Thanks! Well at this rate we'll be done by what, 2026? Edit: I was ninja'd. I'd say that it would be released on something like steam when it is completely done.

2027, it'll come out right after Shrek 14, Ice Age 12, Half Life 3, and Terra Nova season 2. In all seriousness, as we're gathering Steam I honestly believe that the microbe stage is only three years from completion, and once it's done I think we can get all the way through society in the next three. edit: Nate Silver I'm not, so a six year time frame for that might be overly optimistic or pessimistic, so I'm not sure if it's realistic. My apologies if I end up being wrong. edit 2: And the programmers we have do really amazing work, so as I say this they'll probably obliterate my cautious timeline with their dedication (in a good way).

Feature-wise, the Microbe Stage isn't anywhere near half complete. Sorry to burst your bubble, but we haven't even started things like the evolution, reproduction and combat systems. Yes, the base is there to build from, which is more than could be said for a lot of the time the game's been in "development", but there's still a long way to go for the first stage alone. Timeframe estimates have been and likely always will be useless (especially from non-programmers), but I'll make one now and estimate that time-wise we're about a year away from the full Microbe Stage. As others have said, it's all about exponental growth. With more progress we get more developers, with more developers we get more progress, and so on. Right now what's holding us back is the reliance on two or three people to get the hard work done - that is, the programmers. Lately all of them have been busy with real life, which puts a dent in our ability to make progress. As soon as we have enough dedicated programmers to stop this happening, development should go massively faster. On broadcasting to large groups of people: there's no way we could make it as far as the Multicellular Stage without it. It's the only way we'd ever get enough people to create the necessary self-sufficiency. What holds us back here is the fear that insufficient progress will turn people away. It's a bit of a Catch-22 - we can't get more devs because we don't have enough progress to show, but we can't make more progress until we get more devs. The plan is to start promoting ourselves properly after the release of 0.3.2 (a stable version, without the bugs of the test releases). While not ideal, it's in a promising enough state to not drive people away completely, and frankly in my opinion if we don't do something about this soon we'll be stuck in a rut for a long while yet. It's why I tried to set deadlines for things, which...um...didn't go very well. Also, The_Wayward_Admiral, Terra Nova should never have a second season.

I'm definitely in no rush. I'm using a less than decent mac, and probably will be for a few years, so I can just watch as you guys progress no matter how long it takes. Maybe, I'll be able to play it with my kids by the looks of things(I'm not even in a relationship just to put things into perspective), and I'm cool with that. I'll lose interest in a couple months, you won't see me for a while, but I'll eventually return. So, it's as surprise to me for a new release as the next.

Half life 3 confirmed? I just wonder how long it will take to get a decent foothold in the multicellular stage, given Thrive will probably have more public attention.

This may sound silly, but. I see true passion in every single developer, staff member and community member alike. Games as groundbreaking and as intricate as this don't form over a week, but at the rate things have been going! Hot Belgium! Seeing people work with something they seem to love greatly, is a good thing to watch in itself. And if thruve does come out fully complete, I'll miss all the interaction we had here. The community is he heart of thrive, and we all have plenty of heart. 'Good things I see, the future does hold' -Yoda (possibly)
