Hey, you have surely already talked about this, but I've wanted to know how will work the different kind of civilizations.
You know, when I've played on Spore, I've loved the different kind of civilizations... But I've found soon enough their limits. Personally, i've imagined specie with a tech-based culture, and another one based on tourism. Will you implement scientific civilization or touristic civilization ? I'm a Tycoon game enthusiast and I've personally questioned myself how will work the industry and exportation. Maybe a bit like the Anno series ?
Like I've said, I've created species, but i was still unsatisfied. So I wrote some script on them, including the way they could earn profit by research or touristical ways... If that's interest you.

Personally, I love how Anno handled its trading but other games like steamcommunity.com/linkfilter/http://store.steampowered.com/app/57620/ or its younger brother (personally I think 3 was better but hey), do it superbly. Personally I can't wait to handle my economy as I know I'll want to make my dream money whore city (Las Venice) extra detailed and deep(find me a better word ples)

Well, there won't be specific civilisations types, per say, although there will be numerous ways of building an economy. For example, you could have a civ that relies on the trade of fish or computers. So, you could basically create your own type of civ. Resources that could be traded would probably range from fish to electronic devices, and probably to that specificity. I don't remember reading anything about tourism, although I think someone mentioned it in passing.
Also, I'd like to hear your ideas.

The game could just look at certain stats and traits to categorise other civs. Probably based on tech level and economic system. That's a good solution IMO.

Would civs vary in how developed they are, so could we see (without the use of a better term) third world civs rise up that request a more basic resource for trade? Would you be able to 'take advantage' of these civs letting you hire low wage workers or am I thinking too deep into this? Will slavery be an option?

Depending on how politics and economics work in the game (if a playthrough isn't reduced to a few competing world powers), that would probably show up. Heck, maybe the PLAYER could end up as one (from occupation, internal turmoil, getting left behind, etc).

First, sorry for the late response. I did'nt have the time to return on the forum. Second, i read what you wrote.
Actually, i've thinked about two things :
The one i wrote, convince others Nations to give you research fund and give them technology you discovered, like a contract. This could be parametred ingame by a stat-based system on military force, economical power and, most of them, technological advancement. As a researching-based, nation, you'll must be the most advanced, because nations with better technologies than you won't be interested...
In the second way, we could basically sell hi-tech produce like said Steathstylel.
By using the same stat, we could implant industries in low economical power and have with lower wage and cost like in real life. I don't know if it will respond a part of the Lowry's questions, though. But it's complete the idea of Captain McDerp. Well we could, by modding or directly made ingame, make an "humain" merchandise and sell while they'll be removed from the active population. I've thinked it too, since i've made a distopian cyberpunk-like species who mastered the cloning process and sell them around the galaxy as low-wage workers.
To the tourism, i've thinked to something simple as buy publicity space in other towns and see tourist be dragged naturally to you. A bit like Simcity societies (Yup, I've bad tastes. Normal, since i'm scat lol).
Sorry to respond a bit to all. I don't want to replace the own vision of the games creator. It's just my way to think.
