Welcome to the meta thread for the Official Thrive Civilization Forum Game Competition (http://thrivegame.freeforums.net/thread/318/official-thrive-civilization-forum-competition). This thread is meant for any off-topic discussions about the game, things going on with the game, memorable moments from the game, etc. However, it can't be totally off-topic, it must pertain to the game. It will also give a chance for people not playing the game to give some feedback to what they think about the game, and what the players have been up to. To give some examples of what you can use this thread to talk about: - If you are a player, you can tell us the story of your tribe or civ using my descriptions as reference. I only mention the important information each round, so here you can tell us about what's going on with your tribe or civ, what was happening behind the scenes, what happened between the rounds, some background behind their daily lives and culture, etc.
- Give feedback on how the game is designed and any changes you'd suggest.
- Create some fan art/stories from the game's events.
- Share funny moments from the game, or try to make a meme from any memorable events.
- Even if you're just a spectator, share what you like and what changes you'd suggest, or if there's any more information you'd like per round. It's also a chance to talk to the players about what you've observed of their decision-making.
- Have some fun banter about the game.
To start it off, I challenge one of the players to write up a full history of their tribe/civ using the events and details I have provided in the game, going up until this current round. Based on how well it's written, I may or may not grant the player a bonus vote.

like in this trend for voting or on the actual game? in game I think that'd be an interesting mechanic, especially if it could be anonymous and if it got better once espionage became a thing.

The dawn of sapience had all but ended. The Cereans had risen, superior, above all creatures in Eos. They had split into tribes which were groups of families sticking together for food and protection. These tribes began to migrate and explore outside of their original valleys, as a result of food and water shortage. Far and wide, they spread and the Notrean tribe were one such tribe.
The Notreans eventually settled in the North and decided to send out exploration parties to discover more about their surroundings. However, whether due to getting lost or just not wanting to return, most never went back. For a while, these individuals lived a very nomadic and basic lifestyle, traveling wherever the food was. They lived alone or in very small groups and so this meant that they were often victim to vicious predators. Therefore, these travellers banded together and the Norica were born.
They camped together and eventually settled in grassy plains west of the Notreans. Finding themselves lacking in food, they resorted to raiding the larger Notrean tribe, which were successful more often than not. However, in response to these raids, the defenders developed flint-tipped spears, which rather blunted Norican attacks. But their attacks were rescued, when one unnamed Norican invented a basic sling, which they used to lob small stones at the enemy before they could get in close with their spears.
Soon, the Noricans became a lot more established and decided that it could be profitable to engage in trade with their enemies. Temporarily, the raids stopped. But old habits die hard. Although the Notreans tried desperately to use this lapse in raids to pacify them, their attempts to give them cattle failed. The Noricans had no idea how to look after the cattle, which all perished. Needing a food source again, their raids resumed under the cover of night. Notreans often woke up with their stores or sometimes even cattle nowhere to be seen. At the same time, some of the Noricans decided to give the Notreans knowledge of their slings, and while they weren’t looking, grabbed a few Notrean spears.
Generations later, the Notreans tried once again, to teach their simpler counterparts the art of animal husbandry, so that they could produce food of their own. They saw this as essential to relieving themselves of the persistent raids. Eventually they succeeded, and many of the Norica become cattle herders. The raids trickled out to almost nothing. Meanwhile, other Norica cultivated wheat near their rivers, and soon small, simple settlements sprung up in these areas. The Noricans had really shifted into gear now and were well into their transition from wanderers to established tribe.
It was at this point, some Noricans sought to take advantage of the rivers, now called the Winde (northern river) and the Casbah (southern river). First, they crafted simple rafts but these soon developed into canoes. Riverside settlements prospered as people and supplies were carried to and fro. This prompted many arrivals in the river villages from the hills, and fishing soared. The Noricans, who had come from almost nothing, had become a Minor Power, to rival their neighbours to the east. It was during these prosperous times that the eastern Noricans contracted the remnants of the plague that had ravaged the Notreans. However, it’s effect was minimal as the population was widely dispersed and it soon disappeared.
Now, the Noricans are still enjoying their prosperity. Times are good. Using their boats, they have discovered a link between their two major rivers – an as yet unexplored sea. This was important, allowing them to travel between their villages in the north and south and keep contact between them. Also, their settlements have begun to transition from tents to more durable huts. Although they are by no means anywhere near as civilised as the Aciremans, they are certainly developing. On the other hand, the most westerly elements of the Noricans have resisted change, resolutely keeping to their lifestyle of nomadic cattle herding. And Noricans are troubled by Notrean farmers invading on their territory to the east.
But, I think it is safe to say, things have never been better for us. This is the story of the Noricans so far. Hopefully, there will be a lot more to tell.

TheCreator : Not yet, but after you discover map-making, I'll probably make that an achievement. However, if you want, you could create one for fun. I won't confirm anything on it. evolution4weαk : I've thought about it but I won't be including it, because I think you should already be able to influence other people well enough by making votes, publicly or secretly, to affect them. Aquos : Yes, go ahead. StealthStyleL : Very well written! However, I'm going to wait for some other people to submit their histories as well, and then I'll reward the best. Also, the neighbours of the Noricans lie to the east. To give an extremely simplified visual: Norica | Notrea | Acirema Croutons
