I have returned from the grave with another poll - this time regarding donations.
I apologize if this is in the wrong area, but I feel as if the issue needs to be addressed.
At the pace that Thrive is currently going, we won't see a complete finalized game until 2030s, or 2040s.
Setting up donations like on patreon or some other funding site could bring income to Thrive for hiring actual professionals to work on the game full time, and thus speed up development.
Not to mention it could get this game on Steam more easily.
Also, people would get a better quality product out there.
I just want to see the community's views on donations.
Why? Because there exists a thread on reddit that was made by one of the developers, asking for the community's opinions of donations.
If the mods feel as if there's something wrong with this thread, then they can close it.

It's a perfectly fine issue to discuss. It's very complex though. For example:
- Are you sure the quality would improve? Would the volunteers get frustrated that others were being paid and would their work quality drop? - What happens if the money runs out, are people who used to be paid supposed to go back to working for free? - Who owns the real world bank account the money is paid into and who decides what is worth paying for and what is not? - What are the legal issues involved, do we need to register as a charity? How will this work internationally with tax etc? - Which aspects get paid? Is it just programmers or is it everyone?
As you can see it is not so simple as all that, even in we had $1m dollars tomorrow I think that is equally likely to wreck the project as finish it.
Personally I really like the vibe in the team and I like that Thrive is a volunteer project. I think it's more than a game and that's really cool.

I would think, nobody gets paid, and money is only used the advertise the game. And we must do it republicly, so we all must vote for what the money is used for.
So a sudden influx of lots of money would probably not be good.

Isn't democracy a form of republic?

Well... Democracy is the act of the people voting for one person to lead them.
Wait, I did some wikipediaing, and there are multiple forms of democracy. We normally use representative democracy, but the one I was talking about is a direct democracy.

A democracy isn't necessarily when you vote for a person, that's as you said, a representative democracy. You seem to have figured it out though so yeah
