When I played Spore, I was a very powerful conqueror, and yet, several empires claimed I was inferior, my alliances told me that they were literally using me and I was forced to shrug it off, and the Grox claim that I am too inferior to be pledged to.
In Thrive, if you become a powerful empire, would other empires fear/respect/honor you? It'd be jarring for the most powerful conqueror to be belittled by others until the last second where their cities blow up.

I don't think this has been discussed yet, at least not to my knowledge, but I assume the size and type of your empire would be factored in to things such as negotiations. For example, if your empire has 10x the army your enemy has, they will be more likely to give in to negotiations. Of course, this is just me talking.

I was thinking about this yesterday. Found a thread on the Sporum about it. Here it is.
Basically, the OP talks about how the simplified relationship system only determines whether other creatures/tribes/whatever attack you or not. In the Space Stage, an empire you've crushed down to one planet will still make threats and demands even though they've been having their tails handed over on a silver plate. Small, rude empires will ignore the fact that you've defeated empires the same size as you, and have conquered an entire galactic arm. One user makes the point that devastated foes should negotiate peace and their surrender in exchange for not getting wiped out. Another states that the player's success in conquest should influence other empires' decision to surrender (tangible reputation).

Whenever I destroy an empire's planet, they would beg for me to end the war with nothing in return, which is implausible. The fact that I did conquer an entire galactic arm along with clusters of systems surrounding my Grox ally makes it ironic that empires do not hesitate to throw insults or go to war with me when they only have one planet, it could be the fact that I only have one ship. In Thrive, would there be fear or respect across the galaxy depending on your size, power, etc?

I dug through the Ideas thread and a few other places. I couldn't find anything concrete (although I'm about to embark on a journey through the wiki, wish me luck). I think the problem is that we're simply too far removed from the space stage, so all I can say is: I hope so. It would be shame to have a fear system like Civ V or Civ BE, or as you said, Spore. Update: The wiki is also devoid of information on the subject. I believe that StealthStyleL is correct in that it has not been discussed, or at least not at length.

A reputation system could actually be an interesting mechanic. Like imagine a relatively small empire, trading and going about their daily business, and then they sound the alarm. Silence, all radio signals turned off, all trading stopped, all ships back at the planets, civilians cowering in their houses. Then a massive fleet, belonging to a large and ruthless empire, flies through space, scanning for new life to conquer. F'ing terrifying.
