Can you explain a bit more about the goal of the game and how exactly it is played?

The goal of the game is whatever you feel like it being, it's a sandbox and all this. Maybe a decent statement would be to have fun.
To play, once the starting conditions are set you'll get a budget and some info, and then be able to take some actions - stuff like constructing and moving units, establishing colonies, researching technology, subjugating peacefully unifying with a neighbouring nation on your planet, and so on. Actions can be done through RP or just stating them outright.

How is the outcome of combat being decided?

Units exist in different battlespaces - land, sea, air and space are the main ones.
Units will attack units in their own and lower battlespaces, or in higher battlespaces with some penalties. The strength of each unit is determined by a base strength, a unit quality, the technology level, and the local terrain of the battle.
I compare the relative strengths of the units, add a random modifier to both sides, then subtract losses accordingly.

Thanks! That was exceptionally helpful. My sincerest apology, but a question I neglected to ask, What is the span of a turn (both in game and IRL). Should a turn cover a hundred years? Ten? A month? And will players submit their action every day?

My current plan is five years per turn, with shorter turns for during events in combat (e.g. planetary invasions). Turns will be done whenever players have finished posting their turn (plus some reasonable margin so we don't wait for all eternity if someone forgets; maybe 3-4 days maximum, idk).

Species Name: Admiralensis extraneae (The Admiral's Waywards, aka "The Wanderers") Polity Name: The Empire of the Mind Technology: Interplanetary, not yet interstellar Government: Technocracy Preferred Climate: Tropical Rainforest History: A race of humanoid reptiles not dissimilar to the "Elder Scrolls" Argonians. They hail from a jungle planet covered with marshes. Long have they dreamt of life free from the burdens of their steamy homeland. As they reach out into their solar system with their first colonies, they rejoice in the knowledge that they can achieve a new understanding of their place in the cosmos, and secure their standing within it. The Wanderers know little of war, but much of science and the arts.
