Could the AI for groups of organisms have the same framework as military detachments’ AI would have?
When you think about it, they would have similar behavior characteristics:
Organization: Both types of group have their constituents move as a unit. Both could run by the same “group radius” feature that keeps them from straying too far from their companions. In addition, the judgement of a leader (be it a herd alpha or a squad sergeant) could have the greatest control on how, exactly, the group moves, since their subordinates are rallied into following them.
Morale: Both goups’ constituents change behavior based on the situation. Grouped prey animals can panic just as soldiers can break ranks and flee. Similarly, pack hunters can abandon their quarry on a difficult hunt the way soldiers cancel their objective.
