NOTE: I think I accidentally cancelled posting this thread, so I'm re-posting it. If it is there, I didn't see it. Sorry if I did!
So, I've been following the game for a while, and I'm just curious about how evolving reproduction would work. Will you have to actually evolve sexual reproduction, or will it naturally happen as your species progresses? Like, do you specifically have to specialize certain cells to become sex cells over time? And further into that, would you have to evolve genders, or would they start with genders, or would all animals be the same gender, such as in Species: ALRE, and Spore? I looked through the multicellular page for a while and I don't think anybody's brought this up. If they have, redirect me. Thanks!
EDIT: Yes, I did post this before, I deleted the original one since this one seems to explain my question much better than the original.

I personally think the whole system of reproduction from conception to birth was something that I didn't enjoy in Spore and I think Thrive should have atleast basic diversity in reproduction types.
I'm not entirely sure about gendered creatures in Thrive. I'd say that depends on what kind of scope this stage is in.
If it is first person that may become a hinderance. However, if it is third-person(like Species ALRE did it) then gendered creatures would possibly make sense again depending on the specifics of how that third-person would work.
That's my personal opinion.

Gendered species are definitely planned, as caste variations (think Dwarf Fortress)
In addition, it would be possible to create more eusocial organisms, based on how much you differentiate them.

Oh, nice! I love dwarf fortess and I was wondering if I would be able to create a eusocial RTS-type species later on in-game i.e "creature" stage. Definitely looking forward to giving this game to my great great grandchildren, lmao.

Might play like the zerg though. Basically I think if you created a species of eusocial animals it'd play like your classic RTS type game, with the different castes that you create being your different units and such. Being able to build new mounds/hives, etc etc. |
