Now that I think about it, air is effectively just a super un-dense fluid, and their are things that maintain motion by rotation in the air. A Frisbee only needs a gentle push and then its rotation keeps it going. So if a creature was able to produce a minor amount of forward thrust first, it might just need one wheel to keep it going. It could use its arms (which would at that point in time be fins) to push it forward and conserve energy using its wheel?

Yes, but if it were using the method described in my edit (it's unfortunate it happened just before a page break) then it wouldn't need to produce that initial thrust, freeing its fins for steering or something.

That's one engineer-in-training's take on it. I will brush up on the subject and get back on the accuracy of my current depiction.
Edit: I'm being thick. Your depiction works extremely well. If a wheel were oriented like an airplane propeller, it would work perfectly. It could be a single wheel, in the correct place, requiring almost no physiological change for a land dwelling animal. The_Wayward_Admiral: This one? mitobox:

The tank was Mitobox's idea I believe, I meant that the ancestor to the Cyclorotans could be oriented like a submarine, with a turbine-like propeller in back. Then that would lead into a whole planet of wheeled life (like the helicopter birds whose names' escape me from "Uetiko").
PS: Excellent artwork!

Wheeled animals are likely impossible, but I would like to see how someone would use them in a creature, so maybe they'd be included if LAWK is toggled off. I remember in the His Dark Materials trilogy there were wheeled animals like the one below based on a rhombus-shaped skeletal structure: Also see: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAGEOKAG0zw

If wheels were included specially in LAWK disabled gameplay, would they be a special bone type (like the current conception for skulls) or would you have to get creative and make them from scratch from normal limb bones and skin? (no pressure to be committal, that's ages away at this point! So actually I should apologize for putting you on the spot)

Oliveriver I dunno man, I'm super stubborn on this wheel business. I know how unlikely it is, but I can't help but think if the conditions were perfect then yes, there could be wheeled animals. It's a gut feeling man. A gut feeling...

For wheels I'm sure it'd be easier to have a special bone type, kinda similar to Spore's way of picking parts? A preset "wheel bone" that allows you to edit its size, diameter, thickness, etc.

Sorry, my printer (and by extension scanner) aren't cooperating so I had to draw it in Paint instead. On the left is supposed to be a front on view of the propeller/wheel, imagine of course that it has scoop-like blades similar to an airplane prop. The right depicts the animal with the propeller on its tail, pushing it along like a backward biplane. I would have preferred to hand draw it, so I hope this rendition is clear.

No, it would move forward, but the object doing so is on its back (so structured like a backward biplane, rather than mimicking its motion). Like a submarine propeller. So same image but going forward.

The wheel would need to be pure bone, or something that doesn't require blood. (Maybe an outside source that you have to make/find.) You would also need an axle to go through the wheel. but, then you would need to propel it. So instead of the normal axle, the axle is connected to the wheel, and spins around in a socket. It would still need to be propelled, but not at the wheel anymore. And muscles would get twisted, so that wont work. So, this is why LAWK would need to be used. But there could be a body magnetic field that turns it. (Magnetic doesn't have a plural?!) I can probably draw how this would work. Edit: Silly me. I forgot that it could also use simple weight distribution. Not that hard to draw. Used a handy picture of a ball and socket joint on the internet.
