I was also thinking that for each culture their could be a specialized NPC animations. For an example, there could be an animation for passionate NPCs of a member of your species giving flowers and chocolates to its lover. Little things like that will bring life and character to the cities

Some ideas for animations:
Visionary: - Beatnik reading poetry, complete with bongos -
Friendly: -giving flowers to a loved one -giving gifts to new neighbors - salsa dancing - Belgiumtail parties
Strong: - drill sergeant yelling at boot camp - push-ups, pull-ups, shooting range - chest-bumps - Athletics/Gladiators
Ambitious: - rich people burning money with their cigars -
Clockwork: -
Stoic: - play puzzles/strategic games

What would the culture types affect? From the Thrive Dev Wiki: "This section deals with the culture of the Nation. It is hoped that this section of the nation editor will allow for an in-depth gaming experience for those less interested in the military aspect of civilization. In this section the player can create and edit the specifics of the sports, arts and celebrations present in their nation as well as make changes to the cultural themes and caste systems within their nation. As such, this section will have headings for 'Caste Systems', 'Events and Entertainment' and 'Cultural Theme'. The Events and Entertainment Mini-Editor will involve a system of using key-frames, timelines and movement designation to create custom animations for Sports, Arts and Celebrations. There will also be options for the triggers to such events, or for the castes, buildings and places most often associated with this event or entertainment. The final heading deals with the Cultural Theme. This is the overarching theme of the nation, and allows the player to relate the key ethic or value of their nation to certain Earth Nations. For instance, some suggested choices for this are: Honor (similar to Japan, Sparta), Love (Medieval Europe) and Liberty (America)."This discussion is mostly about the Cultural Themes

People keep mentioning how aliens could have completely foreign concepts of morality and values from our own. I found an article in quite detail about. Those are some interesting suggestions guys but remember this thread is for brainstorming cultural traits. To discuss redesigning how culture should work would be better off in its own thread, especially the idea of ethics which I have thought a lot about lately and have some ideas for. mitobox : Yeah those would definitely be good ideas for cultural traits, i.e. some established cultural practice of biologically or mechanically enhancing members of your species to reach a more optimal state. I'll add them to the list. EDIT: Also my bad that cultural themes page on the wiki is outdated. I will be posting the new iteration of the cultural system in a new thread soon.
