I assumed you guys have noticed I tend to talk about Fallout 4 quite a bit, and admittedly I do. It's one of the few games I can play without getting bored. But there are also a few things about it that drive me up a wall so I've deciced to post my personal opinion on the game here because boy do I have no one else to rant to.
Let's start off with some things I like about the game. I really enjoy the setting, being in post-nuclear apocalyptic Boston, but I also enjoy the intro giving a hint of what it was like before the war (something I don't think the other Fallout games have done). I really like the new armor layering system and the variety of weapons and armor that can be found throughout the wasteland, adding alot of replayability to the game. I enjoy the settlement building when it isn't required, it makes sense for the setting that someone might want to rebuild the ravaged world. The companions, unlike in alot of Bethesda games, have character and their own motives, likes and dislikes. This helps you sympathize with and like them. The voice acted main character also adds alot because it immerses you and doesn't make the conversations stale (Ex in Elder Scrolls: "Balgruuf: What's this about Riverwood being in danger?" "MainChar: ...").
But the game also has alot of things wrong (I'm going to try not to use bugs alot because every Bethesda game is loaded with bugs). My first problem is the game's sense of urgency, which is shared with Skyrim. The main quest feels like it wants to rush you to each location and give you no time to stop and take a breather (In Fallout 4's case its looking for your missing son and in Skyrim's case its "OMG DRAGONS ARE ATTACKING HALP!!!!"), which adds to another problem I have with the game, the difficulty. I play the game on normal difficulty so that I could enjoy a decent of challenge without the game being boring. But the game can (and will) kill you alot if you don't play it safe. The problem with this is that when the game wants to get dramatic, all hell breaks loose removing any means of playing it safe out the door. One of my other major problems with the game is the Power Armor. Not so much the Power Armor itself but for how overly-common it is. From what I've seen of previous games, unless it was the Brotherhood of Steel not a whole lot of people had Power Armor. In Fallout 4 it seems like everyone and their mother has a set, Raiders have it, the Brotherhood has it (obviously), you can just purchase Fusion Cores like they're another typical ammo. It detracts from the coolness of the Power Armor because it feels too ordinary (heck they basically shove a suit at you in the second quest of the game).
But I don't feel like filling up an entire page with one nerd's ranting so I'll leave it here. I still like Fallout 4, but it can be very annoying at times. Feel free to post your own feelings about the game.
