(first of all, yes I know there already was a thread about the general idea, but this is something alightly different, and the thread has been dead for a month now, so....) In spore, you only designed buildings for decoration (still spent way too long on them though), so my question is: How much will designing building impact your city (could you be able to, for example, have a building that's just bad quality because you didn't design it well enough(Not enough space inside or something)), and will you be able to design your own "types"of buildings (for example, instead of having twenty buildings with different functions, will you be able to make just one huge building that can take on all of those tasks)

The real question is... can we design the inside too?

My guess is that you can design modules with certain stats or assign parts of a building to complete a task using tech objects or function parts made for buildings. (Drills, reactors etc)
For example, you can just plop a few blocks down like in Spore, put some windows on and assign it as housing. Then you can attach a drill and tank in the editor so it can drill for oil, which decreases the happiness of the occupants. Since you know, a big drill attached to your house is gonna keep you up at night.
Designing interiors is probably a no-go. Since it really isnt easy on the resources and tedious to do for all your buildings. I'm also in favour of using an algoritm that takes existing buildings and changes them up a bit in the same visual style so you dont have to make new ones yourself constantly.

For example, you could have a 100m by 100m building assigned as a house that could fit x number of inhabitants or a 5m by 5m house (depending on your species' size). A factory could have more production power the bigger it is, but requires more resources, man power (if needed) and more power source (if needed) to run it. I assume you will need resources to create buildings, so you would have to make the most efficient design to do the task in hand if you want to have a successful SC.

You would put research points into "factory efficiency" and "construction efficiency" to get more efficient while having a marked construction site.
