A user on the Thrive Discord, ElrodLogan, brought up an interesting idea but was not willing to register an account on the forums to share it. I volunteered to share their idea for them. "The basic idea is maybe your cell's species could mutate so much that it becomes some sort of cancer cell?" EL's concept art: "...you are infected when you are touched by the [haze]. You can only lose the disease when your cell is killed. You also spread the "Mutated DNA" and you see everything a little bit greener." Gromalocaris/Grodog's recreation: "Maybe when you are infected and go into the microbe editor you get a entirely new version? Like a more green version with new parts?" Infected editor concept art: Personally I have doubts that these concepts are entirely scientifically accurate; however, they are still quite interesting and might serve as inspiration for future game mechanics. Feedback will be sent to ElrodLogan via PM on Discord.

There's an Easter eggs thread here too, and I believe the earth was suggested there.

Personally I think the origin of life on the planet should be up to the player. If we go with panspermia, some players will be upset because they wanted life to form by chance at the bottom of their planet's oceans, others may want life to have been created by a God or an ascended race, etc.

I don't really see much similarity to the old shard design, it looks more like Oliver's.

StealthStyleL - What do we do if we want to update our application? Note: The the subscript next to names is the Human pronunciation - the Tireeie pronounce it a bit differently in a way that Humans find difficulty in mimicking. PM for use. Planet Slohb(slobe)A temperate ocean planet that orbits a safe distance from it's home star, Maeiia (MAY-yuh). 100% of it's surface is covered by water. This vast ocean is home to a wide variety of life, from simple bacteria to advanced multicellular organisms, from the very surface to the bottoms of the deepest trenches. Among these creatures are the intelligent Tireeie.ImagesSlohb as seen from space. (Image taken in SpaceEngine) The Tireeie(tie-REE-yee)The Tireeie are sapient, fishlike organisms from Slohb. ImagesPixel art of Bekseeib, a female Tireeie, wearing advanced clothing Goldenmaw, male, the leader of the Eiishesh, wearing a spacesuit and holding some weapons. BiologyTireeie are about the size of a dolphin. They have a long, flexible body, 6 fins, 5 eyes and a triangular beak for a mouth (see second image). They have a long line of nostril-like gills underneath the fin. They have noodly, branching 'arms' protruding from the cheeks, which are also very flexible (see second image again) Their voices allow them to create dolphin-like sounds, makeeieing theeier unusual words pronouncableeiiieiaaie. Females typically have light, sky-blue skin, while males usually have dark blue skin. Brief HistorySoon after gaining sapience, they began to form tribes as they spread across the planet. These tribes were primitive at first, but eventually their technology improved as discoveries were made. One key discovery, however, was impossible to make due to their habitat. They were unable to discover fire. Because of this, they could not smelt metals and therefore could not get past the Stone Age.
And so civilization was stuck for millennia, discoveries still being made, technology gradually improving, civilizations rising and falling, until finally, out of the blue, their civilization was uplifted by an advanced alien race (known as the Treaii(TREE-uh) by the Tireeie) for unknown reasons. It wasn't long before the Tireeie had their spaghetti-like hands on their technology, reverse engineering it and spreading it through the oceans. Villages became unusual mixes of old and new, primitive and futuristic. Treaiinu, a religion based around the Treaii, was created and quickly spread through Slohb, mostly replacing the smaller religions that had existed before.
It wasn't too long before space travel was developed and the Tireeie began to colonize the galaxy, meeting new species along the way. Notable Groups Eiishesh:(YEE-shesh) A formidable band of space pirates, led by the terrible Captain Goldenmaw. The Eiishesh aren't connected with any nation. They are known for attacking ships, stations, and colonies in deep space in search of money and technology, often leaving few survivors. They are so well known that many simply associate Tireeie in general with them. This contributes to the Tireeie's largely negative image.
Treaiinu:(TREE-uh-new) A religion based on the Treaii(TREE-uh)'s visitation of Slohb. Around 60% of Tireeie are followers of Treaiinu, and nearly 98% of Treaiinu's followers are Tireeie. Although it promotes mostly peaceful actions, some extremists believe that the visitors gave the Tireeie technology to help them conquer other alien races.

Nah, it's a Tireeie, just another sapient, technologically advanced underwater species that just happens to also have an odd number of eyes, long, slit-like gills underneath the fin, and manipulators near the mouth! Seriously though, they're two completely different ideas. It's a bit silly how many similarities there are between the two.
EDIT: They're technologically advanced because they were uplifted by an alien race. They were stuck in the stone age for a very long time due to the inability to smelt metal underwater.

Welcome Lucky The game's nowhere near close to the aware or sandbox modes so you're in for a long wait. We hope you'll stick it out with us though! I can tell... Oh well, at least I have Spore! www.dropbox.com/s/ngx4iza337dw5l9/IMG_1151.JPG?dl=0Yes, this is a Fishlander from the 'extremely bad' Thrive Comics. (I didn't think they were bad at all, they were actually quite cute imo) Welcome to the forums! That Fishlander looks really good! I'd love to see some of your other creations.

Thrive used to have a console, accessed by pressing the tilde key, but it was buggy and you couldn't really do much with it. Disco mode was in the April fools joke that was version 0.4.0; it replaced all nuclei with flashing disco balls and had this theme playing nonstop in the background. Disco mode isn't present in any of the serious versions though. I think the devs might be planning to re-add the console eventually, and have Disco Mode be accessible through it, or perhaps some other method, such as entering the Konami code.

Thank you so much! Alright, possible bugs and/or things that I thought might need tweaking: The intro movie's audio continues playing when it's skipped. The 'Options' button doesn't work, though I assume that's just because the feature is incomplete. The second tutorial box is off-center. Link
The tutorial should also describe the reproduction process. The Undo button in the editor is not functional - you have to undo using Ctrl+Z, which doesn't seem to work half of the time. The Redo button, however, works. The text in the help box is all squished together in the middle. LinkChloroplasts have bright neon coloring. LinkLoading a saved game plays the reproduction sound, the damage and death sound a few times, and causes the microbe ambiance to repeat. (Though I'm pretty sure this has always been an issue)

The game's intro seemed to go by way too fast. The rest of the game played normally until it tried to show the player's microbe, then it crashed. I'm running Linux though so that may be why
