Speaking with minimal authority on the subject both in expertise and position here, unless the tech web has been scrapped and redesigned, metallurgy is going to be kept vague fairly the most part, in the interest of avoiding having to become an expert on the specific physical properties of metals and metalloids. You'll discover techs like "Copper Alloy Metallurgy," which will allow you to do things like form basic weapons and require the metal that gives the tech its name as well as one or more other metals that are associated with it. The same will happen with iron, and later on more complex things such as electronics (tied to silicon, which ought to be plentiful, though hey, who knows), and super conductors (via ceramics or various alloys).
I would have to do a bit more research, but a rough progression would be Basic Stone-working -> Advanced Stone-Working -> Copper Metallurgy -> Early Alloying (marked by metals with a low melting point) -> Iron Metallurgy (marked by metals with higher melting points). Prerequisites would include availability of the resource. While copper was the principal metal for humans early on, I think we should allow a small family of metals that are known for being able to be found in their pure state to replace copper, if it is justifiable. The same would go for iron.

Yeah, I would say a goal organism creates a lot more headaches than it really solves. Maybe later, but it shouldn't be base.

If this was already talked about, sorry. But could we make it so that these plants/fungi slowly become more aware of the environment? More than just "it's winter now", but to like Venus Fly Trap levels and beyond? Tat could be how sentient plants evolve, they prey on insects, and slowly become more and more mobile until they are effectively putting sugary nectar ride outside of ant hills waiting for the entire colony to creep into their mouth. No, because if the player directs their species toward a sedentary existence, they should not be forced to change that just because we have some preconceived idea of how the game should be played.

Blast, another idea came to me. What of the flying polyps? Will they be feasible to achieve? Or are they too alien? I think I need to check the thread about none carbon life... We are sticking to carbon based life for simplicity.

How do you prevent twisting of skin with a biological wheel, unless it is not attached to the body? If it is not attached to the body, how is it formed and maintained? If it is not maintained, how does the organism's body know to replace it?

(nonsense question)from a scale o 1 to 10 whats your favorite color of the alphabet? (actual question)will viruses be added in 3.3.0? Doubtful at this point. The game still needs to iron out actual evolution before entities like virus or disease are introduced.

I was under the impression that the progression was Cellular > Multicellular > Macroscopic ~> Aware ~> Tribal/Civilization, with the latter three kind of blurring together. The names may differ, but correct me if that is not the general goal.

earth was not the hot bucket as they say back in Mesozoic times in fact famous creatures like trex and pachyrhinosaur lived in fairly cold places with yearly winter snowfall.as for most dinosaurs being cold blooded is a myth.the ony dinosaurs i can see being cold blooded were sauropods to prevent themselfs from being cooked from the inside (which is why mammals never get any bigger then that massive rhino thing Other than whales, but only because the ocean saps warmth far more quickly than air, and so they can still exist in equilibrium.

Dinosaurs were likely already warm blooded, given the ecological niches they filled.

Not that I'm aware of, though I know that my biological knowledge is not too technical. Really, you either use the local area to warm yourself, or you don't.

Here is the original original forum, back when we went by the name Evolutions!, though that was a long time ago. As you can see, the forum is kind of... non-functional at this time.

Warm blooded organisms tend to dominate when the temperature of an environments is more subject to change. Cold blooded organisms tend to dominate when the temperature is very stable over long periods of time. Neither is immediately better without some sort of context.

Do we still have a list of these people? They deserve an honorable mention in the credits. ~sciocont was one of them… And as much as we like to criticise him, Sven made the post that was the inspiration for this whole idea, and set up the forums. Was Poisson around back then? I think Noitulove might have been. And there were others, some of whom never made it to the Thrive era. I was around, as was Noitulove. I remember RedStarSound as well was a big figure back in those days.

So having played for a bit, one of the issues I ran into was that it was not always clear what objects were in the cell stage. How do I use vacuoles? What are these small, dark red objects? The blue ones? The green? The other green ones? The yellow? Perhaps I am blind, but the player is left to a LOT of trial and error at this time in trying to figure things out.

I'll likely take a more thorough look over some things come spring break, but just a quick glance around, things look pretty good!
Random question that may already have been answered or is being discussed: Has there been serious thought about how to transition from microbial life to macroscopic life? I see a strong emphasis on it right now (which is good) but it also risks us backing ourselves into a corner.

Been a long while. I was back in high school when I made my last posts here, and now here I am looking at graduating college soon. Oliver sent me an email that I should swing by, maybe get back into things, even if I'm not a coder. And I still recognize names of some people here.
Not sure I have much to offer, but what's going on? How have things changed in four years, aside from some slow but awesome looking progress?
