Hi there! I would very much like to join the project, but I am unsure if my experience level would be enough to really make a contribution. I hope this is the right place to post this, sorry if it isn't
I have completed a yearlong high school programming class, and am retaking it this year as well in order to get every smidgen of experience I can get from it. I have certainly learned a lot, but I am unsure as to if I am ready to join the project.
I am going to major in network security next year, where I will take other programming classes. Should I wait until I have more experience before joining? Is there any free courses or tutorials you might be able to recommend that could teach me a bit about game programming, so I can understand a bit more about how "game oriented programming" works?
The most difficult thing I have made is some java applet chess game. One way or another, I want to help ensure this game is a reality.
Thanks!

And when talking about a hive mind I dindn't meen a "telepathic" or somhow mystical conection, but exactly what you were saying alexwite. In the end it's less how ants do it, but they do behave like a single organism contrived by many individual cells. Actually, ants do show a level of individuality. For example: An ant colony has made a nest in a place that is no longer as hospitable as it used to be. One ant starts the task of moving the entire nest to a new location. Somewhere else in the nest, another ant has also decided to move the nest. Neither ant affects each other's decision to move the nest, they both choose it of their own accord. If all the other ants in the nest disagree and would rather stay, they move things back to their original place. If enough ants decide to move the nest, the queen will also move, which forces the other ants to move since they aren't "voting to stay", but merely not taking action because they don't feel the need to. If the queen moves, the other ants now have a reason to leave and they do so My point is that ants often make decisions via "majority vote" because they are individuals. They don't think as a collective, but each ant is governed by the same or similar instincts, so it often seems like they do think collectively. EDIT: I didn't see that the subject of the thread has moved on from this, sorry Sorry to burst your bubble folks, but I'm 99% certain psychic abilities will not be added. Shame because I'd have enjoyed it too. well darn. Still hoping for casts though, I wanna see all the hundreds upon hundreds of xenomorphs people will make.

Showing my maturity here, but if anyone played modded minecraft, there's a mod I fell in love with for its 'taint' this had a purple goo cover everything slowly, dissolving trees and changing lakes into breeding cats for massive predatory taint swarms... Sorry, this thread just reminded me. *breeding vats ;D lol this sounds pretty cool. Idk if it could be made a thing in the game, but it would be cool to have it a thing. I'd rather be a mass of slimy, undulating, squirming goats tho.

I know this is kind of cliche considering that someone has asked this question in every other stage, but since this kind of thing doesn't really exist in other games (a species transcending reality) I was wondering how far this is gonna go?
I've read the wiki page, but just for the sake of sparking conversation, I'm gonna ask this anyway. What sort of things will you be able to do? I assume you will be able to do some basic stuff like instantly destroying planets, killing and destroying things, eta. What else can you do? Will you be able to create creatures (like hit a button to enter the organism creator and make one on the spot) Then place it down somewhere? Will you be able to zoom in on a planet and adjust the atmosphere content (if that will be a thing in the first place) and tweak it around? Will you be able to possess creatures of another species and control it for a while?
Also, I was thinking that since you have ascended to pure energy, you will need energy to survive. Will you be required to harvest energy on a regular basis, like from a star for example? Maybe it will cost energy to do things? Or would this be too restrictive for what is essentially a god mode as a reward for beating the game?
Another thing to consider: Will there be any sense of progression after you reach the ascension stage? Or will everything be unlocked right from the get-go?
One final thing: Will NPC species be able to ascend? Is it possible to have a war with such a species should they be too destructive? If this happens, the energy thing I mentioned earlier would make sense. I am not sure people would want what is intended to be God Mode to be anything other than a God Mode, but I thought it was worth asking.
These questions are intended to be more of a "would you like to see this" kind of thing, since I know that there's no way we can know for sure what this stage is planned to have.

This is pretty cool. I'd like to see this make it into the game. Don't get too hopeful tho. The devs are more interested in adding gameplay features rather than new parts considering how far this game needs to get before this stage is finished.

If they added pupating I'd imagine it would probably be more like insect pupation where they form a chrysalis and undergo changes inside, then they come out and are adults. Still JELLYFISH ARE COOL

It's probably best if we wait to at least finish awakened stage just so that people would actually wanna play it. The problem is it needs a way to generate income if it's on steam (I think). If Thrive is still planning to be free and will have no DLC or in-game purchases they may not accept it. Don't quote me on that though, I have no real idea about this process I just would expect them to want something in return for supporting the game.

I was thinking about the larva thread and I thought, "Should a species be allowed to pupate multiple times?" I don't think this would be too hard to implement game mechanics wise, but it could cause problems for the later stages where civilized behavior makes everything complicated. I honestly am neutral on this, I care more about there being more than one or two "casts" in a species rather than multiple pupations, but its still a thing to think about. Another thing to note is that there is literally no evolutionary advantage to do this. If a species needs to specialize, it can have multiple casts ie a queen, drone workers, a "male" to impregnate the queen would be a good hive system or you could have males and females as a cast system like humans (neither is superior over the other don't start that argument ). Pupating multiple times is inefficient to be completely honest, why not grow up to an adult the first time? But I'm sure some people would still wanna do it so is it worth implementing?

Wow, That's actually a really great idea. It should be noted that human babies come out quite underdeveloped in comparison to other live-birth animals, so a larval stage should be optional.

I would imagine part of the progression in multicellular would include more complicated coordinated activity as more specialized cells evolve.

So these cells originally were from separate species but due to the evolutionary advantages of specializing and working in large groups they ended up working together?
