The third male keeps running, seeing no other options. The hunters are closing in...
The first male continued to wade. He looked back, and he could see the Hausa past the rainforest boundary. They were rather far, but the water slowed him down, and he wouldn't make it if he didn't hurry.
The Jungulooth closed in on the Skrawx. Now was not the time to spring. Just a little closer... All six of his legs paddled softly, his tail swiftly churning the water, all without a sound.

Seeing the male come toward them the two huntmates lunge at him, one trying for the legs the other for the torso, the flying Hausa dives to tackle, The second group closes in but has to stay together and slow down to avoid the trees, they see the 1st male is too slow to make it to the lake, but do not see the jungulooth yet, though they stir clear of odd water currents to avoid being dragged down anyway

Note: The first male is actually in the lake, he's just slowed down by the water. The water goes up to his legs, and Skrawx just aren't evolved for wading.
The second male, thanks to his running, is able to keep his legs from the first one's lunge. He is tackled by the other, however, and rolls down the slope a short distance once more.
The first male is still wading. He sees the Hausas gaining on him, and tries to go faster.
The Jungulooth, in millions of years of perfected instincts, knows that now is the time to strike. He lunges, his tail thrashing powerfully side to side, his back and middle legs kept to his sides, his front legs held out to grasp, and his fanged maw agape. The Skrawx is caught by surprise, and turns back, leaping. His right leg is caught in the Jungulooth's jaws, and his left leg, while free, only kicks and flails. He cries out from the pain.
The Jungulooth is satisfied by his prey, whose long evolutionary arms-race against the Hausa could never prepare him for this. Keeping a firm grip, he happens to look up, and sees unfamiliar flying creatures. Undeterred, he uses his back and middle legs to try and tug the fighting Skrawx into the murky swamp water.

The third male lets out a feeble cry before he dies from the pack's mauling, going down like his kin.
But at least its death was not prolonged. The first male is close to being torn apart by the dueling predators, and he can only screech. The Jungulooth is infuriated by the Hausa's interference, and snorts in contempt. He uses all six of his legs in his tug-of-war against the Hausa, and snaps his jaws to catch the Skrawx's other leg. Meanwhile, he swings his muscular tail at the attacking Hausa, even though his smooth scales, strong as armor, do a good enough job of deterring their attacks already. His flailing tail hits one of them in the wing.
It's strategy and numbers against stealth and brute force.
It's the Battle at Kruger, on an alien world.

The Hausa hit in the wing flails for a second then rightens himself then dives to try and get to under the creature and attack the under belly, his friend continues to try striking at the creatures eyes, now keeping a lookout at the tail and pulling back after each strike, one of the Hausa trying to pull the Skrawx let's go and tries to strike atthe jaw or neck, the last one continues to pull at the Skrawx, hoping to make the beast let go,the snarls and growls echo through the trees and one of the Hausa tries to bite with his poison fangs

The Jungulooth is enraged by the smaller predators going after him, especially the one targeting his eyes. He closes his eyes, and, in his literal blind fury, he rears his head powerfully, tearing the Skrawx in two; the Jungletooth has the lower half, the Hausa the upper, and the water around them is bloody.
With half his quarry free, he recedes into his watery domain to eat in privacy, swinging his tail at his foes as he turns to submerge.

While not as satisfying as a whole meal, the Hausa are glad to have secured prey and gotten away unharmed, and turn to fly back to the mountains as the other group gathers their hunts and also prepare to head back to their caves, the hunt was good today thanks to the young Hausa, and he will surely be rewarded for such

Name: Scurrimp Description: Mammalian, arboreal creatures covered in orange fur. Have large heads with hairless, catlike muzzles and large monkey ears. Their eyes are enormous. They have long arms and legs, as well as thin, fur-covered tails. They eat fruit, as well as bugs, eggs, and meat when they can find it. They are highly social, and have a simple language allowing them to tell things like the location of food or danger. They are even able to use tools, such as opening nuts with the hammer-and-anvil method seen in real-life monkeys.
Right now, a troop of about twelve Scurrimps watch the Hausa fly away after their encounter with the Jungulooth. They had never seen Hausa or Skrawx before, but it was clear that they had come from the mountains. A young member chatters and points out some guts that spilled out of the Skrawx. The alpha male nods, beckons two other Scurrimps to follow, and goes with them to get the meat.
Down on the forest floor, they are wary of the Jungultooth coming back out for seconds. They skirt in, pick up the meat, and dart back to the trees (passing by a browsing Retrogibbus as they go). The meat is split up and handed to each member of the troop.
=EVENT=
Winds are bringing clouds in from the coast. Due to the mountains blocking their path, they aggregate until a rain shower starts. Notdrownasaurus is not bothered, and lays in the rain. The Blunderplods are oblivious as usual. The Scurrimps cluster in the dense canopy to stay dry.

The scurrimps go unnoticed by the flying away Hausa, who rejoin their brothers and head back to the cave with their prize. On the beach, the Gula tribe sees the rain and collect their supplies, heading back to their caves and prepair for the incoming storm, they attempt to cover the front of their cave and warm themselves with fire, the sound of thunder scares the youngest, but the boy calms them by telling stories of the day, while being treated by the shaman. And the girl is lectured by the chief before being send to help take care of the boy. On the mountain side the Hausa return to their caves triumphant, with much of their badly needed food intact to be split among them all and cooked, meanwhile some of the children playing with berries collected from the trees squish them, and start making markings on the wall. They notice the storm but it's very far away.

The Scurrimp troop stays in the canopy. They chatter about the events that transpired. The young one who pointed out the meat tells how he saw the Skrawx enter the rainforest boundary from the mountains. This heightens both their curiosity about the world beyond the jungle, but also fear, because the concept of a Jungultooth that can fly like a bug is quite dreadful. They hoped that such creatures were confined to the cold of the mountains.
Elsewhere, Notdrownasaurus is taking a swim. He uses his bioluminescence to light the area, and goes catching Polypguins again.
The storm is going in full force. The Scurrimps are huddled close together for warmth. The Blunderplods are still oblivious as ever.

Within their caves the two Hausa races mirror each other though with clear differences, the mountain ones keep their caves warm with fire, as they tell the stories of the day, the 5 skrawx and the large jungultooth fight, the young Hausa leader is ribbed about the springboard, but honored by the chief for his successful hunt as the children record the stories onto the walls. The beachside Gula light their fires as the sound of the storm continues, they tell of the succesful fishing trip, and the bad berries, the boy entertains with the story of his brief fight while the small creatures that share the cave with the Gula feed on the leftovers,

You should try making the species that the Gula are feeding. Y'know, name and description and stuff.
The rain is beginning to lighten up. Some of the Scurrimps peek out of the canopy to see whether the rain is gone yet, then head back to the group, which has stopped huddling. Skrawxes are not affected by the storm, although some near the rainforest see it from a distance.
The returning sunlight hails a herd of a new species.
Name: Boundariers Description: They look like hunched bipedal sauropods. They have dull yellow scales, and a row of spikes going down their neck, back, and tail. They browse on trees at the edge between the rainforest and beach, their large size preventing them from going deeper in. Their feeding creates a band of treeless grassland defining the beach-rainforest boundary. They travel in herds, and when a predator draws near, they lean forward and run, often using their arms as extra legs.

Note: I put the Valuis in the Google Doc for you.
A shoal of Polypguins is eating at a small Rockweed reef close to the Gula fishermen. They stay out of crevices to avoid Lobstopedes.
Elsewhere, the Scurrimp troop is starting to move on to their daily playing and foraging now that the rain has lightened. The young one that pointed out the meat, whose name translates best to "Leaf Cloud," is playing around in a deposit of clay-rich mud close to water too shallow for a Jungulooth to spring out of. He forms it into a ball, then tries molding it in his hands. Intrigued, he climbs the tree and shows it to the Alpha, referred to as "Leader." Leader, while curious, isn't exactly impressed. Leaf Cloud tries to find a way to use his discovery.
Meanwhile, an adult female gives birth to a male, bringing the population to 13.

Note:thanks The Valuis watch with keen interest as the Gula fishermen begin to try catching fish some with spears while some try diving in themselves, propelling themselves with their odd wings, and the valuis even try catching their own when they get to close to shore meanwhile the second group leaves the cave, a group of scouts that will search the shores for strange animals and other tribes, a gathering party also sets out, with some guards and older Valuis hunters, most of the children stay and play in the caves, guarded by the large valuis alphas and their betas, including the girl, Xena, and the still injured boy,Dua. On the mountain the chief, no longer worried about food supply for the next few days, orders a few scout groups to look for sutible and easy targets while brining a larger group to find and observe the beast they fought yesterday, while the others foarge and the children practice flying in the caves caverns guarded by the newly named Vilaa, the hunt leader who scored 5 kills.

The Polypguins among the fishermen's quarry try their best to escape, but are easily speared along with the other fish.
On the mountain side of the jungle, Lead Cloud has figured out how to form the clay into a bowl-shape. He reasons that it will eventually harden, and experiments with using them to hold two to three fruits at a time and leaving them in spots in the canopy where they won't fall. Leader is pleased and sends his two underlings from yesterday to go help Leaf Cloud make more bowls for the tribe.
The Jungulooth lurks nearby, bearing scars on his eyelids and underbelly. He is unaware of the nearby Scurrimps doing pottery, and probably wouldn't bother with them anyway. He simply rests.
At the boundary grassland, a herd of Boundariers browses. The larger adults often drop branches down for the smaller younglings, who aren't tall enough to reach the trees. A group of females lays their eggs in nests made of mud, then leave them behind. The hatchlings that survive go on to join herds, but right now they're just eggs.

The Boundariers notice the Gulas looking at them. Some members of the herd watch back to make sure they don't come after them, the rest keep browsing.
Leaf Cloud and the others are oblivious to the Hausa, too busy making bowls. They often grab wet clay from the ground to add to their bowls. Once they are done, they go about grabbing fruit, put them into the bowls, and scurry up to the tree they were in earlier, confident that their new fruit stores were plenty. They find the others staring up into the sky between gaps in the branches. They put the bowls in safe spots and observe, while hiding with them.
The Jungulooth comes up to the surface, snorts out a spray of water and CO2, inhales, and then submerges once more. He does not notice the Hausa.
