Thought I'd test how an MS Paint-based game of Civilization on a forum would turn out. It's more of an experiment than anything, hence the bare-bones unit diversity at the bottom. I estimated that, as cramped as the game board is, it has room for about 5 players. So come one, come all, well, come five, that is. The map itself is complete, I just made all but five areas covered in a Fog Of War. Pick one of the three land tiles in an area to start in, and tell me what color you want to be represented as. Your color will go in one of the tiles in the bottom right, and your species name will go in the corresponding "unclaimed" spot. It's first come, first served. If you decide that you can't invest enough time in this, you can give your stuff to someone else who's not playing. Since this is a Thrive forum, you'll be playing as a species during the Society Stage. Species Name: (self-explanatory) Description: (a purely decorative description of your species) I haven't even worked out the Tech Tree because this was a spur of the moment thing (well, the board took hours but that's beside the point), so I'll scramble something together. In the meantime, here's what I can say about terrain: Grassland: +2 Food Forest: +1 Food, +1 Production Desert: +1 Gold Mountain: +2 Production Ocean: +1 Food Tundra: N/A The terrain a Society Center (Thrive lingo for settlement) is adjacent to determines what benefits it will reap. Tiles that give food speed up population growth, production reduces how many turns until what you want is finished, gold rushes production, etc. In addition, certain research topics will give more bonuses from tiles (like "Irrigation" giving +1 Food from deserts). Combat will involve dice rolls. Probably researching some options like "Basic Metallurgy" will tip the rolls in your favor (because metal weapons and armor) until your opponent researches it, too. I'll probably have players start a message thread with me so people can't see what they're doing.

Also, to whoever joins, either today or tomorrow or so on: Don't pick a color easily confused with terrain colors. Confusing confusion will confuse.

Well done on the board! That must have taken some dedication.
Species: Tyrrd Description: Small, green, reptilian species. About the half the size of a human. They have sticky pads on the end of their fingers and toes that allow them to climb vertical surfaces. Player colour: Yellow Starting point: Can I please start in the top area, in the grassland on the right?
I have a confession to make: I've never played Civilisation.

Oh damn I really want to play this... Species: Tesline Description: Six-limbed cat like organisms. They are about six feet tall when they stand on their hind legs, though they mostly walk around on four legs while using the front-most appendages as arms. They have rubbery, yellow skin and the only hair present on their bodies is on the torso and on the tips of their tails. They have two prehensile tails which have special cells in them that allow them to feed on electricity. Due to this aspect of their diet, their fur tends to stick up constantly if they're well fed. They have a single black, beady eye in the center of their heads, and a pair of small, flat, blade-like horns. The Tesline are primarily carnivorous but have been known to supplement their diet with vegetables. Player colour: Electric blue Starting point: In the grassland to the left side of the map.

Wow, I didn't think you guys would like the board that much. It's actually a v2 of another one that I deemed way too cramped, and I thought even this one was a bit small. Then again, most people play Civ V zoomed in. Here's what I've got so far (I removed some more Fog Of War around your cities, so I reckon you're starting to get some ideas of how the planet looks). Anyway, I put a "1" on everyone's starting cities. Cities and units will be numbered so we can keep track of their information without making the board too convoluted. Feel free to give your city a name.

I'll join.
Species: Civiliot Description: Tall, light purple humanoid with yellow belly, and palms. Always wears a big mask with large hexagonal eyes and large leaf-like sheets in the back of the head(for communication to listen to other languages and to speak in their language, but it is translated to the listener's most fluent language). Starting tile: inbetween the ocean, desert, and grassland in the middle, right, center. Color: Lighter Purple

But, to you and February Steam of Foushoo, this is just an experiment to see how this idea pans out. There may be a bigger, better one in the future. If I put my back into it, there could be a hex-board with enough room for like 10 players. Also, who are the Foucoa?

Turn 1: For millenia, the planet of Aeon was ruled by the laws of nature alone. Species emerged, Thrived, and fell to extinction time and time again. Not today.Five species have ascended their natural instincts to fulfill their potential. They are the Tyyrd, small reptiles living at the edge of the cold north. They are the Eikoow, shaggy beings living in the central forests. They are the Sorcientle, red, four-armed humanoids living in the southernmost mountains. They are the Tesline, electrical felines living in the western plains. And they are the Halli, flying canines living in the western grasslands. All five are poised to take Aeon as their own. Ok, city name: Alluim Work: mountain Research: agriculture Build: settler Quick question are there barbarians? Not really. I decided that the map was a bit too small for them, and they'd be another variable in the experiment to keep track of.
