You pick a rock to swim towards, then begin your journey. Your fellow... whatever you ares seem content to stay and scrounge up whatever algae's left. Your tail twists rapidly, kicking up sand. You go through an area devoid of algae and Doofapples; seems like the "herd" was here before. Suspiciously, there aren't even Twerpi... What's up with that?
Alarms blare in the back of your primitive mind, instincts telling you to be on high alert. You slow your pace slightly, and suddenly sense movement behind you. You stop to look, but nothing's around. Just you and an empty seafloor. You resume, going even slower to help sense movement better, and, sure enough, you feel something following you. Odds are it knows you're aware of it, but doesn't know that you've caught on to where it is.
Confrontation may be inevitable. What do you do?
You have 3/3 health.
You have 2/3 stomach.
You have 8 MP.

Go back to the rest of the group. Go to the populated area and loose it in the crowd. Go go go THERE IS NO TIME TO LOOSE WE HAVE NO DEFENSES JUST RUN BACK
Alternatively: evolve some spines and leave our clone to deal with our new friend...
Edit: screw it. We're not running today. We will fight for this rock. We will succeed.

At first, you contemplate making a mad dash to where you came from. However, the journey to the rock in mind, you decide to show this predator that this prey goes down with a fight.
You spin around, scanning in every direction. Once again, nothing. Then there's a flicker of movement in the sand, and it all falls into place.
The ambush predator reveals itself. Turns out its skin color blends in with the sand. It's shaped like an arrow, its head ending with a jawless mouth that can bite into thin membranes no problem. Then again, you have a mouth, too, and it's skin doesn't look much better either.
The creature starts to swim toward you. It'll reach you in a second or so; no time to back out.
You have 3/3 health.
You have 2/3 stomach.
You have 8 MP.
Defeating the ambush predator (don't forget naming) will unlock Sand Camouflage.

What happened to evolving spines? WE CAN'T WIN WITHOUT SPINES!!!Alright folks it looks like my editing of my post has royally Belgiumed us over. But you know what? Belgium it. We don't need spines. We must take up arms, comrades. I say we wait for it to dart at us, and sidestep like a matador. Once it's past us we bite into its side. Repeat until the Darude Darter is no more. Vote to name Darude Darter

Name it Ambodart >Darude Darter.
No time to evolve! We must strike now! Menacingly charge at it!
Pointy things are sharp. I agree with the wheel raptor in the suit. We attack at dawn! ("Sidestep" this lil' bugger and bite as it speeds past)
Edit: as close to sidestepping as you can underwater... with a tail... while something's chasing you........................ .... ... .. . . .. . . . .charge it?

But Thouartmore...! We cannot simply charge at it! Then we have an equal chance at hitting each other! We must sidestep abd bite it as it passes! Edit: Guys can we call it the Darude Darter?? Like Darude - Sandstorm? Because of its sandy complexion??

i thinking evolving spines would stil be a better choice ( i seem obsessed with those spines don't i ?) but i think atrox's strategy will work out well and i think darude darter is a good name
NOTE: i am becoming kinda paranoid that my comment doesn't make any sense at all again please tell me if that's the case

Note: Evolving means you sit there for a minute splitting in half. That makes you extremely vulnerable. Don't evolve in combat if you can help it.
The Darude Darter (+2 MP) goes for the lunge. You quickly dodge, causing it to begin speeding past. You nip at it, its own momentum working against it as you tear out a piece of sand-colored skin. The liquid contents of its body seep into the water as it turns back to face you. It swims toward you once more, but deliberately slower this time.
You have 3/3 health.
You have 2/3 stomach.
You have 10 MP.

this is probably a bad strategy but : i'd go swim dow to the under half of the darude darter and attack him in his bellyish thingie if that even makes sense

On the thread that inspired this, you'd find that people usually agreed on ideas fairly quickly, even though there were more people contributing. An example is when they were being crushed and strangled by a huge amoeba creature they called an Okido. In only a few posts, they concurred that curling inward, and pointing their protective spines outward, would be the best defense. Even at only one health point left, they managed to shred the beast apart, and the tactic was christened "Spiky Ball of Doom."

I agree with Aquos, and after the battle, I suppose I vote for spines, even though it means putting off omnivorous specialization...

The_Wayward_Admiral, since we can defend ourselves (for now) without spines, let's specialize omnivorously and devour the Darude Darter. But let's wait till after the battle and stuff.. We're the predators now.

i agree with Atrox on this one ( i am finally not obsessed anymore with spines !) we have to go omnivore but after that we should go for spikes
