I assume that starting society stage would begin with the creation of the first permanent structure, similar to gobekli tepe. So how would this start? Well since Thrive will star a single member of a species, up until society, how could we (properly) make a smooth transition from one to many organisms at once? Well the transition could begin from awakening as a single one of your species(you, the player) organize a project between you and the NPC's to construct a site for some purpose(such as religion), after which you act as a chief, still a single organism, but in control. This could lead to a more transitional stage where you start getting more direct control, this stage could end at the development of agriculture, at which point you would start having more direct control. I dunno just my ideas.

Well that was my point entirely... And I don't even read the wiki.

Just to clarify: Strategy Mode and the Society stage are different things. Strategy Mode is the perspective you play from, in this case now controlling a group of individuals until it becomes similar to how you would find it in traditional strategy games. Society stage is just the arbitrary period of history. Also, given that the the Industrial stage is next, agriculture will probably not be the end of that stage, probably something closer to creating steam engines or something.

What happens if you capture a SC instead of buiding it? Do you become settled and enter society stage or do you vassalize it and remain awaken?

Well, if you take over an SC, that would put you into society stage, because you would have a permanent building.
