I think that an achievement tree thing akin to the one in Minecraft would fit pretty well for the purpouse of subtly guiding a player to progress. No, just no. Have you even read what thrive is aiming to become? A gradual, non-linear transition. The one thing the devs have always avoided is the idea of progression. They don't want milestones and stepping stones guiding you through a path. Just like real evolution you adapt to overcome hardships and changing enviroments, not work towards a goal in a very direct way. Working towards a goal presented by a quest marker sucks the life out of your playthrough by being bound to preset paths. The player tries to survive in the enviroment and does whatever he pleases, leveling up intelligence and building civilisation is probably the most concrete goal you will get in the game, but even that is just a mere suggestion. Yes, we need tutorials, but no quests or achievement tree like in minecraft and similar games. At least bother to read up on the games' intentions before requesting stuff.

IT IS NOT NECESSARY. Nobody forces you to complete them. You do not even get a recource reward for completing them, which minimises the urge to follow the set path. You play how you want. I said "tree" because some things naturally can not happen without others happening first. For an example: you can not RUN 100 kilometers(classic achievement material here), if you do not have legs or if you are a microbe. And i have red about what Thrive wants to be. If you have further concerns with the concept of Qests, please talk about them to the person who started this thread. I just offered an idea how to implement what they presented in their post.

Alright kids simmer down. As the perpetual "Man on the Fence" I can sort of understand where polymorph is coming from, but McDerp does have a point. Even if it isn't necessary, it still kind of ruins the point of the game which is survival via adaptation. That's not to say there will be no achievements (see the...rather immature Achievements thread) but if it flatly points out what you're supposed to do then it ruins the exicitng of figuring out how to adapt and progress on your own.
