So lets say you fall will yur creature take a lot of damage or break some bones or be like Spore amd take no damage at all? And with collision will the creature take damage or will they just be pushed away like a boundry around the thing?

I think, with the current goals for realism, it'd be possible to, say, break your creature's ankles (or more) with a fall. And ramming could be done similarly. Damage through contact is simple, relatively speaking, but the goal I think is a bit more complex than that.

If there is going to be collision damage, there should be rock falls in mountainous to make use of the mechanic and have a good reason why the mechanic exists.
Similarly, if your species resides in a high altitude area, you may need adaptations to prevent individuals from falling. I think too many games are adding falldamage for the sake of adding it. I want fall damage to be meaningful if it is there.

Fall damage would be realistic, and realism is what thrive's aiming for. You can't just survive breaking bones and having your insides ruptured from a high drop. Unless you're particularly lucky, which I believe organisms in the aware stage are not. I suppose that medicine could help with bone breaking, but you wouldn't have medicine then and it doesn't help with ruptured insides anyway.

It could make flying more interesting

If you're flying and you hit a rock wall, you'll most likely die depending if this mechanic is added.

I think this should be added, just the added challenge to the game should make it worth it. A collison damage mechanic will make people think twice about parcouring / flying through dense areas. While it would probably take some time for players to get used to it (thinking of space engineers), overall it would make for a more realistic game. Just try to imagine the chaos that would be caused by creatures flying into mountains at neck-breaking speeds and getting away with it...

That, and it makes legitimate sense in the context of Thrive's goals (to simulate life on alien planets to a relatively realistic degree not counting Non-LAWK mode). If you hang-glide into a cliff face, it hurts. It hurts ALOT. And fall damage is just kind of a given. You don't fall 50 feet without snapping your knees, legs and a whole lot of other bones. I can imagine you could develop your organism to lower fall/collision damage.

A lot of you are talking about this but nobody's mentioning fall damage on higher or lower gravity worlds!
Alien worlds with different gravities would add real danger to consider when creating your creatures! You want to fly on a high gravity world?? Good luck you're gonna waste so much energy trying to get off the ground and landings are always going to be rough and painful. Flying sucks, better not do it on High G Land!

That's a very good point Atrox.
