This is where I am writing a more or less full history starting with the Grenebolym's rise to civilization. The first story is being written right after this post is made.

In some year before 31,000 ASE, the species Grenebolym noverder took residence in most places on the continent. They had evolved a system of camouflage to evade predators. This trait, however, ended up putting them on top of the food chain, where before they used to be third. This trait is a cell structure that when a chemical binds to it, it arranges itself in a pattern that bends most types of light visible with biological eyes around the cell. These can be easily controlled by neurons from the brain. This cell is used for all their skin, but their eyelids are different. Their eyelids are transparent, but when activated, makes the same shape inside out, so that light can enter the eye, but not escape. A one way mirror of sorts.
After they spread, some Grenebolyms witnessed an animal fall down a cliff, taking some rocks with it. They immediately went to claim the carcass before any scavengers could beat them to it. At the scene, one Grenebolym found that a rock that upon contact with another made a very sharp edge that was much sharper than their own claws. She did happen to find it by stepping on it (Ouch). These Grenebolyms started using that tactic to make tools that are sharper, and don't wear out as quickly as their own claws. This meme then spread across the continent. A different set of Grenebolyms trying to create a tool accidentally made sparks that caught the grass on fire. This mildly burned some of their meat stockpile, but they found it was easier to eat after that. This led to the cultivation of otherwise inedible grains, which led to farming. This farming created the idea of a Kingdom, or a Regn. They created four types of titles a leader could hold. This list is in order of lowest title to highest title. A Cont governed a range of 1 to 4 cities or castles. Usually, they were a vassal to a Duc, but on rare cases, were independent. A Duc held 3 to 4 Countes. A Re holds 5 to 6 Ducats. Strangely, they created a fanciful title of Imperator, which would hold all of the Regns in the world. (Cont controls a Counte. A Duc controls a Ducat. A Re controls a Regn. An Imperator controls an Imper.) In English: Count controls a County. A Duke controls a Duchy. A King controls a Kingdom. An Emperor controls an Empire.

3070 BSE A shooting star flew past the sky. Flying past was a lie, it flew straight towards us. It wasn't going that fast, and was only about the size of a person, and didn't make much damage. (Except the hole in my farm now.) Of course, I immediately had to investigate. It was a ring. A strangely spherical ring. The ring was a very ornate metal, with strange patterns of lines on it. When putting my ear on it, I could hear a hum. But the strangest thing was the center of the ring. It was the purest of blacks, with small white dots scattered around. When moving around, the white spots would streak across the blackness, following you until you stopped moving again. I try to find a way to lift the ring up, but it is much too heavy. Still, I keep trying and accidentally push something. This button instantly welds into the rest of the ring, but the machine tells me the secrets of its inner workings. I instantly know how to work it, and what it does. But, first, I need to get it out of this hole.
We all know this famous story of the start of the Vecchi Imper. The note the first Imperator wrote and left on his farm before he used the hyperdrive ring to gain power and form the first Empire on Cas-Pianet. His lies to convince the people that it would only work to the worthy allowed him to create a line of succession never heard of before. The Imperator would be able to choose which son to secretly teach the workings of the ring to, and the son would then continue the lies. It wasn't until 1530 BSE that another son managed to eavesdrop on the lesson, and tell the world of the Imperator's ploy. This instantly destroyed the Empire and any direct vassals became independent. The Imperial family were executed, except the rattler. Later, in 1300 BSE, the ring started to get reversed engineered by a Re who owned the city it was still in.
Limey's Notes (NOT PART OF STORY) The first part of this post has gone through many changes. When I first designed the crossbow, I knew how it worked. When I created the first post, I wondered how I would introduce the hyperdrive ring to my species. I had completely different stories on how it first came. One of the stories were a whole tribe finding the ring instead of just one person. Another included a whole starship with the ring. Anyway, hope you enjoyed this story, the rest should be easier to write now, since I have had an idea how it went after the first empire for a long time. +If anyone wants to know where I am getting these dates, 0 ASE/BSE is 2050 C.E. here on Earth (assuming). The Grenebolyms reached space 20 years before. (Meaning every date is 20 years earlier. Year 40 on Earth is 20 on Cas-Pianet)

Good introduction to the crossbow I was always wondering how it worked. So the Grenebolyms were uplifted!

603 BSE The people in the mountains did something unthinkable. A strange disease came about in their valley. This valley is very, very isolated, almost impossible to bring an army in or out. The new Re though he should expand some more to get more people since they were all dying. So he declared war on the nearest Duc, and only brought five hundred grens, and a load of catapults. They used their deathly disease to siege, loading their dead into trebuchets, and firing them over the wall. At first, they laughed. Then they died. Then they surrendered. Some escaped. That Re only planned on capturing a few castles using the disease to take the farmers. He started the world wide pest bubbon. We are surely all going to die from it. Thanks, Re Juel di Yellowmun. You've doomed us all. Limey's Notes (NOT PART OF STORY) Figure out what this story is mirroring. I had to do something like this, not much story building, but something to fill the jump to the next story. Yes, I realize I am filling in the gap with something that took place 700 years later though.
