(Thanks to Atrox for checking this for me) What is the Thrive Universe?Hi everybody! I'd like to use this post to introduce you to a new idea of mine; the Thrive Universe. I thought it would be a cool idea if we had a collective universe to pool our creative projects together, if the creator wants to of course. Be aware that this is just fan-based and you shouldn't expect to see any of it in the real game - unless you recreate it. The idea is that you can submit your creation and it will be added to the universe, where it can interact through events written by you. It's similar in some ways to a large, overly ambitious version of the Ecosystem forum game (created by Mitobox.) I've strung it together through two threads: The Thrive Universe Catalogue and Events Thread The TU Application and Chat Thread - thrivegame.freeforums.net/thread/1189/thrive-universe-application-pageHow do I apply? You can submit your idea to the application page, where it will be checked that it doesn't conflict with the Laws of Lore, and if it is ok, it will become a part of the universe. You can submit almost anything such as planets, civilisations, creatures and technology. You can be at any stage of history, microbe to space traveller. The current time will be when humans have created an engine just capable of travelling to different solar systems. Please say whether or not you mind other people writing about your creation. What else can I do besides submit things?
Play around with the universe! You can write events or stories, as mundane (the life of a worm) or as exciting as you like, over whatever time period you desire. You can even go back in time and write about something that happened a long time ago, or even forward as long as it does not conflict with other events. You must first submit your writings to the application page. Please check if you are writing abut someone else's creation that they have said it's ok. What are the Laws of Lore?I don't want to seem Draconian (yes, I do) but as with every game, some rules are needed to keep order. Order, I say! 1. It should be realistic. In the nature of Thrive, I'd like to keep this universe fairly realistic. Suspension of disbelief will be allowed but only if it at least seems like it has a semi-realistic explanation. This kinda leads into the next rule. 2. No OP creations. 3. Your stories and events must not conflict with the current accepted universe. E.g. You can't have someone who died a millennia ago, suddenly appear for no reason. 4. If you wish to make a creation that directly affects someone else's creation then please consult with them first. E.g. Creating a creature for a planet somebody else created. 5. Do not break immersion with over the top silly names. Please tell me of any suggestions you have or any questions.

How unrealisitc can we get though ? Can we have things like organic wheels, or gasbags ? Or is that too unrelaistic ?
I really like this idea, btw. It's awesome

Yeah, those things are ok because you can give an explanation that is almost scientific even if it isn't entirely accurate. Things you can't do are super powers or something.

Reminds me of the SporeWiki Fiction Universe (there was a thread here a while back about it). I'm assuming a legion of universe-devouring demons is off-limits? Also, the SWFU has a lot of galaxies... Here were the ones that were being worldbuilt right before most of them were annihilated by the aforementioned demons: Would the Milky Way be the only galaxy for the TUCE, or could there be others? (On a different note, the SWFU had two "Starter Example" races, one (hilariously) poorly written, the other being of better quality, to demonstrate what to do and what not to do. I feel like it'd be good to have similar examples.)

I'm assuming a legion of universe-devouring demons is off-limits? Uetikos? :3 I was referring to the Xhodocto (those guys who were going to destroy the universe to return it to its state before the Big Bang). However, putting Uetikoes in as minor, yet galactic antagonists doesn't sound like a bad idea (since "invasive predator species" doesn't sound too overpowered.) They've also got a bit of backstory already (involving another species, the Wegonu, who aren't overpowered either).

Universe-devouring Demons would be on the list of things deemed too unrealistic, yes.
And I think we'll stick to one galaxy, at the moment at least, just so it's a little bit more manageable.
I remember reading the SWFU, that was part of the inspiration for this. Also, that bad concept race is quite funny.

An other question: is FTL allowed ? Or do we have to keep to more realistic versions of space travel ? If FTL is allowed, I assume that we'll have to keep to one type of it (example; Warp Drive) ?

Events
This is where approved events will be stored and where you can keep up with what is going on in the TU. It might get quite complicated! The current events are those that are currently being written about and whose mystery is still uncovered (if there is one). Feel free to add your own addition to the ongoing stories or make up a completely separate one. The timeline by which all of this is recorded shall be set against the fictional human calendar. Instead of BC we have BSE (Before Space Exploration) and instead of AD we have ASE (Advanced Space Exploration), signified by humans leaving their solar system for the first time.
Current Events
Exar Droid Exploration! (Around 2 ASE)
The Exar Droids, for an unknown purpose and creator, tirelessly research the galaxy and all the beings they encounter. Around 2 ASE, they land on Kel'twa II, which they believe to be uninhabited. That is until they discover what appears to be a strange lifeform.
- Major Participants: Exar Droids, Kel'twa II
The Rebellion Against the Ionax Empire! (Around 50 ASE)
Some citizens of the Ionax Empire view the government as a dictatorship and seek to bring it down. One such rebellion took place in the city-ship Alox in 50 ASE, led by No-1. It failed, but in the wake of it the rebel Ionax group, the Plasma Blades, were formed.
- Major Participants: Ionax Empire, the Plasma Blades, City-ship Alox, No-1, Head-Commander Exon
That's No Moon!
Orbiting a brown dwarf, somewhere in the galaxy, is a strange but imposing anomalous megastructure. It appears to gathering a stream of gas from the nearby dwarf. Who built it? What's it for? Who knows?
- Major Participants: Anomalous Megastructure, unknown brown dwarf

Plays in a time long before BSE
A traveler's tale
Kal scanned the horizon. The Val'kair, the Volcano-city he was travelling to was not in sight- yet. That was not good. He was still in neutral territory, where the law was only what a man made it, where right and wrong were decided by force and not morals.
Kal clicked his tongue, his Vashraa lumbered on. It's continuous and smooth, six legged, gait was soothing and Kal was soon relaxed again, swaying in his saddle with the familiar motions of riding. Some time later, as he crested a hill it came into sight, a smudge on the horizon, the powerful Val'kair, heart of the Sun-set plains and home to thousands. A standing stone on the Hill's crown warned him that the no-mans-land ended here, that this hill and all behind it were under the power of King JaIn. In the distance towards his left Kal saw a herd of Vashraa grazing; leaned hard against a protective rock formation a fortified stone complex must be the herdsmen's home. A lookout had spotted him and kept a weary eye on this lonely traveler while bronze glint of his nocked arrow's tip spoke of the constant danger of raids and thieves.
Kal rode on, impressed. Not only were the Val'kairans willing to keep precious Vashraa herds so near the border, they even fashioned arrowheads out of bronze. If he had thought the stories of King JaIn's power exaggerated before, now he knew they underestimated him gravely.
It took Kal another week to reach Val'kair, for it was so massive in this lowland plain that it towered even over the horizon. During this time Kal camped carelessly in the open, on the crowns of hills and even in Gullys because he knew the eye of the storm-season would persist for another month and thus he could only expect good weather for the duration of his travel.
When he arrived at the gates of Val'kair, Kal was dumbfounded. The sheer enormity of the Volcano dwarfed him and the seething masses of people on the streets made him feel insignificant. On the markets he saw furs from the east and northern slaves, with their striking green eyes and strange blue markings on their skin. A squad of a dozen soldiers passed him, clad in armor and carrying spears, swords and large, round shields.
Finding the merchant's quarter was not difficult, it was on the middle level of the many terrassed city. His contact's house was easy to locate too, a huge Villa in the modern style, statues and pillars of imported marble giving it a gaudy, nearly wasteful look. He entered, the guards in the entryway giving him suspicious looks but leting him pass after noting his grey cloak betraying his caste and business with Krosos, the richest merchant of the richest city in the world.
to be continued

1. Catalogue of approved contributions 2. Questions about the universe and how to play 3. Approved stories I will copy and move the posts here 4. Timeline
The only reason they go on the app page is to make sure they fit with continuity and they're not inappropriate for the game.

(this can sort of be seen as a prequel to later events involving the Ionax)
Application Type: Event
Name: No-1's Rebellion
Date: 50 ASE
Main Participants: No-1 (Rebellion leader) No-2 (Rebellion commander) No-3 (Rebellion commander)
Head-Commander Syber (Head-Commander of the Ionax Military) Commander Exon (Head of the Defense)
Brief Explanation: The three experimental soldiers of the Ionax, No-1, No-2 and No-3 sought freedom from the "dictatorship" of the Ionax Empire. Creating an army of around 500 Ionax soldiers (including themselves), they began their rebellion in the Citizen District of the city-ship Alox. One citizen managed to survive the slaughter and reported to the Supreme Leader, dying shortly after. Supreme Leader Cylax then assigned Head-Commander Syber and three regular Commanders (among them Exon) with the quelling of the rebellion. A few hours later and the four leaders, along with about 250 of Alox's best soldiers, found the rebellion wreaking havoc in the Docking District of Alox. A massive firefight occurred which lead to many deaths on both sides, with Head-Commander Syber ultimately sacrificing himself to take out No-2 and No-3. Commander Exon managed to heavily wound No-1 and was among the 15 remaining soldiers left alive after the fight (he was also the only Commander left alive). No-1 managed to escape along with 30 remaining rebels in one of Alox's cargo ships, leaving Exon to report back on the results of the battle. After this, and upon hearing of the death of Syber and Exon's valor in quelling the rebellion, Cylax promoted Exon to Head-Commander.
Length: 1 Day
Outcome: Rebellion quelled, death of No-2 and No-3, death of Commander Syber, promotion of Exon to Head-Commander

Suspected to be sapient. Estimated technology level: late Information age, to middle FTL age. No other fauna dected. Awaiting orders.
Mothership to Units: Information received and stored. Orders. Units 1-3: take samples from floral lifeforms, perform chemical tests on earth, water, and air. Units 4-7: Take samples from flora, perform chemical tests on earth, rocks, and air. Unit's 8 and 10, take sample's from flora, perform chemical tests on earth and air. Unit 9: perform chemical tests on air, to see amounts of pollution, observe humanoid lifeforms to measure sapience, do not make yourself known. All units: next report expected within 80 hours.
Kwra'Destor checked the tabloids to see what news there whas. "Strange creature's seen near edge of city!." Pfft. Kwra'Destor laughed at the mere idea of it. Unkown creature's on Kel'twa ? Impossible. Everyone knew there weren't any animal lifeforms on the planet. Kwra'Destor laughed it off, and drove to his work.
